The part I was looking for wasn't available at Home Depot or Lowe's and out of stock at Ace hardware. Larry & Joe's had the part I needed and provided excellent customer service with advice on how I could fix my plumbing issue.

The folks at Ferguson sent me over here, saying, "They have all the good stuff!" I was excited to go nerd out with them, if I'm honest.
They ended up not having the adapter I needed, which is not a big deal (I'm not sure it exists, frankly). Boy oh boy, though -- the apathy and lack of knowledge were second to none. Two guys were there -- the younger dude tried to help me even though he seemed a bit lost, didn't attempt to measure my mystery fitting, etc. The older guy... wowza. Getting him to engage was like pulling teeth, and then he was useless -- his contribution was a throwaway comment that demonstrated he didn't know the difference between a connector and an adapter. That's when I offered my thanks and left.
I started at the mom and pop businesses, because I thought the selection and service would be better -- nope and fat nope. I ended up solving my own (solvable, it should be noted) problem with a workaround and Home Depot. Larry and Joe's should go get the orange apron that was running around the plumbing aisle with a smile, helping everyone in sight.
I don't know how you stay afloat as a small business with customer-facing people like this. My whole experience was cringey.
