Judo taught here is what one should consider authentic with aspects of the philosophy, martial art, and sport. Many other martial arts teach bullshido for show or sport alone and are great for fun and to meet others but this club educates its members in the whole package of physical fitness, sport competition, self defense, camaraderie, mental toughness, etiquette, serving others, Japanese language/culture, and hygiene. On top of that, it is very affordable. We've been a lot of places in other sports and extracurriculars and this is by far the best investment. Some items worth knowing... It can get packed on the mats, seating, and parking. If you would like to try judo here, you are required to have or purchase a uniform (judogi ~$60, a great price) and pay for an annual membership to the judo governing body that provides insurance ($50-70 can't remember exactly). Visitors may come and watch but to trial participation in a session or week just doesn't exist without that investment. Before my first child joined, we sat in and watched a couple classes. I'd recommend anyone do that, child or adult.

I found this club from a relative, saying how the Sensei was old school, and very traditional.I'm talking about the rear 2000.We lived in Elk Grove and would drive the boys here, three days a week. The boys's dad wasn't very interested, but after time, he ended up appreciating us signing up. (He also became an instructor)! We had so much fun, and learned so much from other parents. We grew very close to all the families, traveled to all the tournaments and spent time with our kids.Over the years, the families started to fall, and most ended up getting divorced.Still the discipline that was taught, the accomplishments that were achieved, were a great part of being with the club. Thanks to the Takeda family, and all the sensei's past and present for dedicating your life to a truly great sport!Miss you guys!
