        Dr. Leathers is friendly, listens well, and most of all is a great surgeon. He did a reverse shoulder replacement on me with minimal pain and scarring afterwards.

        Im 57 and have had rotator cuff issues for years. Lots of wear and tear on my poor body -played multiple sports and had some great wipe outs snow skiing. I havent had full mobility of my shoulder for years and thought that it must be normal since Im getting so old. Shoot everything else has been hurting - it might as well be this too! Ha Boy was I wrong! Dr. Leathers assessed my specific situation, performed surgery on Oct 2023, and I have been undergoing Physical Therapy regularly ever since. I have full mobility. I cant believe the flexibility and strength that has returned. Still have more to go, but Im so much further along than I was before my surgery. I am so happy I went to see Dr. Leathers - he and his team are wonderful! He is very professional yet personable. I never felt rushed or hurried along either. Tanya was very helpful as well, helped me tremendously with my EDD and UNUM insurance paperwork etc. Shes a rockstar! On a side note I heard about this doctor through my father-in-law who also had rotator cuff surgery from Dr. Leathers. His surgery (more intensive than mine) also went well and he is recovering well. I will absolutely recommend people I know to this practice when needed! God Bless you!

        I had a full reverse shoulder replacement by Dr. Leathers Jr. It was nothing short of magic. Instantanly after the operation there was little to no pain. Not long after I had more articulation than i have had in decades. Dr. Leathers Jr. will take time to answer your questions and explain the procedure. He gave me a nice 6 page "blueprint" of his plan of attack beforehand. This operation was nothing short of sensational and I highly recommend this doctor.

        Dr. Leathers' patient interactions are informative and pleasant. I felt the improvement to my knee immediately after the operation. As expected, I had some swelling after my surgery but, surprisingly, very limited pain. I recommend him highly.

      Michael P. Leathers, MD is a skilled orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine physician in Sacramento, California. Inspired by his patients, Dr. Leathers chose to pursue a specialty in sports medicine because the men and women he treats are highly motivated to improve their health and performance. Dr. Leathers earned his medical degree and graduated with honors of the highest distinction from the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. While there, Dr. Leathers was invited to join Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA), the most prestigious honor society exclusive to only the top medical students in the country. Following graduation, Dr. Leathers went on to complete his internship in general surgery and his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles. He then completed his fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder replacement at the University of California, San Francisco. This fellowship emphasized advanced reconstruction of knee ligaments, shoulder ligaments, tendons, and replacements for arthritis, as well as hip arthroscopy. In addition to attending the top orthopedic training programs in the country, Dr. Leathers is an accomplished presenter and has authored publications on multiple topics, including shoulder replacements, ACL reconstructions, pediatric fractures, and cartilage defects in the knee. Whether he’s reconstructing a torn ACL in a professional football player or repairing a rotator cuff in a weekend tennis player, Dr. Leathers is motivated by the enthusiasm of the athletes in his care.
