These people are extremely rude on the phone. I called for some general information and they treated me like I was nobody. They didn't answer general questions and then hung up on me. I hope they do better with anyone else.

I hate to pile on to all the bad reviews, but we too have had a horrible experience with tax return preparers inc., after many wonderful years with joe defreitas. for our 2020 taxes, debra forgot include proof of health care coverage, so we were penalized over $3K from the state. to make up for it, she offered to comp our 2021 return. a couple days before april 15, she informed she was going to file an extension (no good reason provided). when we finally get the return on june 1, it instructed us that payment had to be made on or before oct. 17. NOT TRUE!! we received penalties & interest (almost $1K) from state & feds. debra said "they changed the rules & didn't give me notice." this is total BS. right on the IRS & FTB websites, it says taxes are due april 15 whether there's an extension or not. when i contacted them about this, debra hung up on me & no one from the firm has responded to our emails & voice messages. these guys are unwilling to own up to their mistakes & help us navigate a way to get our $ back. nice way to do business, huh! we have been left to our own devices & dealing with the IRS & FTB ourselves. DO NOT USE THIS FIRM...THEY ARE UNSCRUPULOUS!!

Having used this place for over 15 years and we loved working with Frank. When he told us he was retiring, we were disappointed as he was so personable! We decided to stay for the next tax year and see what happens. Year 1 was fine. Fast forward to the current 2021 tax year filing. The office staff does not return calls nor emails. We sent in our filing in early February and by April 18 (last day to file) we got our returns to sign and submit payment without a penalty. We paid what we owed to IRS and a week ago we received a letter stating we owe a penalty fee as the taxes were filed late. When we reached out to them they advised to send a copy of letter from IRS, which was done and we have yet to receive any communication on what to do! It wasn't our fault that our tax preparer didn't get them done in a timely manner nor did they have the courtesy to let us know that we should file an extension. Very disappointed in the customer service.

BEWARE! This place is absolutely horrible with the new owners that took over in 2020. The customer service is the worst I've seen and they genuinely come off as they could less about their customers. This WAS the best tax place in the area when Joe and Frank DeFreitas (and their family) owned it, hence all the amazing reviews from 2019 and prior! I'm a second generation customer, my parents have been using this place for 30 years! It was the only place I had ever done my taxes until the new owners took over. I absolutely hated their customer service and tone of voice, so decided to go elsewhere this last tax season! They have no shame about it either. They hold onto your paperwork for weeks (more than a month) and give you no timeline for when they will be complete and behave as if they have no time for your questions. Some of my family made the unfortunate decision to use them this past year again and it was a nightmare for them. Please save yourself the headache and go elsewhere. Such a shame what the new family has done to this business. Kindness and effort speak volumes and make a difference in the customer service world, they unfortunately lack both.

If I could give this Company Negative Stars I would. I had been using this company for over a decade before they switched ownership in 2020. That was the last year I had good service. In 2021 it took me weeks to get a return call. The older lady that answers the phone is down right rude and has the worst customer service. Every time you call looking for a person, that person is always busy and cannot answer the phone. No matter what day or time. She says she will deliver a message but never does. It should not take weeks to get an answer or to go over the taxes with the person you are paying to do it. Then I came across Deborah last yr. Last Year she was great. She discussed with me options and got things done in a timely manner. Fast forward to March 2022. I tried to get a hold of Deborah for almost 2 weeks before I was able to connect because the older lady doesn't do her job and is rude. Mind you, you cant go in person because of the pandemic, but yet the older lady always says whoever you ask for " They are with customers". Always. Without Fail. She will not connect you with anyone that works there, for any reason at any time. Her tone is as if she hates her job. And hates when the phone rings because it bothers her. This was not just a one time thing. This was probably every call. Over 20 calls going back to 2021. Anyway, after I submitted my taxes it took me almost a month to get them done. All the while, I am still trying to get a return call from Deborah because I had questions. There is no direct line. You have to go through the older lady and a general Email box. For weeks, I put up with the older lady's rude, condescending, tone and attitude. I finally called her out, and guess what. I got a call from Deborah within an hour. So that was 4 days before Tax day. I went over options with Deborah. Tax day comes, we are down to the wire. I mentioned we need to get this complete and I had been working on this for weeks because of no communication or response. She tells me not to worry. She filed for an extension and I was all good... I had until October. Nothing else had to be done. So without my financial literacy, I had no idea, even though we filed an extension, I would still incur interest and potential costly penalties. This was never mentioned to me. NOT ONCE. By anyone there. And silly me for not knowing. After she told me that my extension is all I need, she then tells me she will be out of the office for over a week. She will work on them when shes get back. So she goes on vacation the day after tax day, meanwhile my taxes Are Not submitted and racking up interest penalties which I have no idea is happening. After her over week vacation, I try again to get in touch with her to go over things and submit taxes. Again, no response for almost 2 weeks. After countless calls and messages. Finally on May 3rd Deborah relays a message thru the older lady to tell me she will not work on my taxes anymore and that she will send me the paperwork to submit. It isn't sent until the next day via their secure platform and before I can open it, it was voided. So now, I cant even see how the taxes were done. May 6th I called again to get my taxes and papers, and I still have not received them or any correspondence. I will be talking to my attorney to see ramifications on this terrible excuses of a business for costing me hundreds, potentially thousands of dollars. I have never had one tax issue in almost 20 years before this. Always filed on time and without issue. Worst experience I ever had. DO NOT do any work with this "businesses". They have no customer service, no professional manner, and no ethics.
