[In summary: I paid $2200, full tuition for EMT training, but did not get to do in-person skills training or ridealongs, and have not received replies to my e-mails.] In 2020, Defib This offered a program called "Bear EMT" targeted toward the Berkeley community. I enrolled and paid the full tuition, and unfortunately, COVID-19 hit and prevented students from doing in-person skills training or ridealongs on campus. We signed a contract that Defib This required, stating that when campus opened, we would be allowed to register for in-person skills training within 6 months with no additional fee; the contract specifically noted that Defib This would notify us when this was available. When campus reopened, I don't know what happened to the program, but I believe they never re-opened. I e-mailed Casey Gaynor (currently the Chief Financial Officer according to LinkedIn) twice, once on Jan 3, 2023 and once on Jan 23, 2023 and received auto-replies both times to contact Jenna Caughman (Lead Admin and Enrollment Coordinator), who did not reply. Our virtual classes were hit-or-miss, with some instructors clearly caring about students + the field and others blatantly making mistakes (one instructor, a firefighter, showed a photo from our textbook that was captioned in the textbook as "baby showing signs of cyanosis" and asked if we thought the baby was ok - we all said no, but he replied "this baby's lips are a little pale but it is probably nothing to worry about".) It doesn't seem fair or moral to have heard nothing after I paid $2200 for classes, in-person skill training, and ridealongs, and only ended up getting hit-or-miss virtual classes.
