We are very happy with the final result of our revamped backyard. It was a big undertaking and the slope of our yard was challenging. It went from a dirt pit to a multi level outdoor living space. Heather and her team did a great job of designing a perfect and usable space for us. They worked within our budget and listened to our vision.  They went out of their way to make sure we were satisfied with the plant choices! We appreciate all their hard work. They have a team of hard working and talented landscapers as well.

We just spent the better part of $40,000 for a complete yard re-do to a low water, low maintenance yard. While the finished product doesn't look bad, there were some things that just stuck with me as a bad way to do business. First, I had a working irrigation system in the yard before they tore out the old one, and when they finished their work, they couldn't get the now-revamped system to work. They claimed that the existing system had problems, and they charged me several hundred dollars to get my formerly working system working again. Second, several of the plants they planted didn't make it. For the amount I spent with them, there should be no questions asked, and they should just come out and replace them. Instead they came out and blamed lack of water, and told us to increase the water cycle which we did. It's also rained quite a bit, and still the plants are in my yard dead or nearly so. Third, I looked back at their original contract for the job, and it says that the plants were supposed to be 15 gallon, and what I got were very small 1 gallon plants. Just a guess, but the price difference between a 1 and 15 gallon plan must be considerable, and I paid for the 15's but got the 1's. Just some things to look out for if you decide to use these folks. Manzanita, don't bother looking me up, you won't find me. And I did give you a chance to come out and make things right, and you blew it. I'm having my gardener replace the dead plants.

Manzanita recently replaced our entire front yard; we are thrilled with the outcome and so pleased with the entire experience. When we decided to replace our 20-year-old, original-to-the-house, tired and bland shrubs and lawn we made a conscious decision to have it professionally designed and installed. I was done with do-it-yourself attempts to improve the curb appeal, and wasting money on plants that just died after planting them! The reality is I don't know what plants are best for my "zone," sunlight or climate patterns, or which "go" together....and I really did not want to take the time to research it, especially when also trying to select drought tolerant plants and create a design that did not end up looking like a big litterbox! What's more, we are not getting any younger so identifying lower maintenance plants was a must.....and we needed irrigation hose replacement which is way out of my scope of expertise. So, we contacted Manzanita after a referral from a friend and reading their very positive reviews. Faith came out, saw what we had and had some preliminary questions about our goals. She explained the whole process and it seemed so user-friendly. I really liked that they could do everything in-house without me having to hire different vendors. The next step was design: DON'T LET THIS PHASE SCARE YOU OFF! It is well worth it! There is an initial fee to do the design work - but what you are paying for is their expertise, creation of a detailed plan, and time to revise as much as needed--all things I don't have. And, even if we walked away and decided not to do it, the design was done and we owned it to use later if we chose. In addition to filling out a style/preferences survey, I gave Heather a color palette as my inspiration and she nailed it with her design. She selected plants I never heard of but they look great, and great together. They really take the time to understand what you want--and they will fine tune until you are happy with the look. They are also good at educating you on options so you manage your expectations or alter your original ideas to get a better outcome. They also will work with your budget. We actually ended up spending less than we planned, and the final cost was below the estimate. After a couple revisions, we scheduled a tentative installation date, but they kept in close touch with us and offered to move it up as openings came up and worked for our schedule. Installation took about a week; the crew was prompt, organized, coordinated, and quick. Tim (contractor) worked with us when problem-solving where to place irrigation or electrical raceways....he was very conscientious of hiding any unsightly plumbing or electrical work. But more impressive was how they leave the job site every day. They cleaned the entire yard each day and did not leave any safety hazards. They provided written and verbal care instructions for the first few weeks and responded quickly to additional questions. And they are VERY responsive in addressing issues right away: when stepping stones were not quite in the location we wanted, they promptly moved them and re-planted plants; if sprinkler output wasn't quite right, they came back out right away to adjust it; a couple plants looked like they were dying...they promptly replaced them. We also asked to install one portion later in the season to take advantage of rain. They accommodated that request no problem!BOTTOM LINE: if you are considering doing ANY improvements to your landscaping, want to reduce your water use, or are ready for a make-over, call Manzanita! The entire team was friendly, professional, responsive, flexible....a real joy to work with. Our yard seems more like a garden that we enjoy tending - we can't stop staring at it! But the true measure is the number of people we catch staring at it as they pass by, or the unsolicited compliments from strangers. We certainly plan on using them for ongoing needs or to improve other areas if needed. Call them - you won't be disappointed.
