Aikido of Monterey

Amazed at the review that says this is an unfriendly place. I attended this dojo as an overseas visitor and was made to feel very welcome. I look forward to the day that I can train again with Aikido of Monterey. Has wonderful adults and childrens programs. If the reviewer who left one star really had done aikido before then he would know that wearing shoes on the mat is a complete no-no.

Instructor was standoffish with me. Ignored me until a student of hers introduced me. Corrected me on her title, asked me to stand in a little corner because I had shoes on. Told her I had done Aikido before, she didn't seem to believe me kept saying things like "you say you've done Aikido" I have! And a fair amount. Ultimately, she wouldn't let me train that night. I was dumbfounded,even offered to pay mat fee. The answer was no. I left. She didn't ask for my number, seemed relieved to see me go. Honestly, I get the impression this is a small little clique that's doesn't really want new students unless they're the right fit for them. Go to a dojo that wants you instead.
