They serve two juvenile hall locations - one in San Mateo and one in SF - and provide GED tutoring and playwriting workshops. I have volunteered here for 4 years and have found working with the students and with the staff members really rewarding. I feel like a valued member. I feel like I make a difference and am supported well by the organization - a shout out to Harold and Robin. Really great. You work one on one with a student at a time. The staff on the unit is positive and the kids are mellow and motivated. No scariness. As a long time volunteer before joining Each One Reach One, this is the "no negatives, only positives" experience I was seeking.

If you are looking for a place to volunteer your time or money, I highly recommend Each One Reach One.  This non-profit organization works with young men in the juvenile justice system both in San Francisco and San Mateo.  They do both a playwriting workshop as well as weekly GED tutoring.I can tell you after spending two years volunteering with the young men in the maximum security ward in San Francisco's Youth Guidance Center (now Juvenile Justice Center) that this organization changes lives.  The lives of the young men who benefit from the work of the organization, and the lives of the volunteers.
