Truly 5 stars all-around. It feels like you're staying at an old friend's place with lush upgrades and a down home feel. Ideally situated within 5 min walk of everything in Sutter Creek and at least 5 tasting rooms. Great romantic getaway spot.

This is the first time that we stayed there since the remodel, so it's been a few years. Everything was perfect, except for one. The bathroom has a concrete floor with a very slippery and shiny surface. Some texture on the floor would be nice, since I slipped coming out of the shower. Ironically I was coming out of the shower to get the cloth mat to put down. Doh. Rooms: The remodel was done well, very elegant and time period specific. Nearby activities: There's plenty of wine tasting, and a farmers market across the street on the weekends. Walkability: Sutter Creek is small, so everything is within walking distance. There are other wineries that are a short drive to as well.

My wife and I have stayed at this self proclaimed "luxury life hotel" three times, the first two times were delightful but the most recent stay is absolutely our last. Apparently there's new owners, and they really destroyed what we loved about the hotel. Complimentary chef cooked breakfast delivered to your door in the morning? Not anymore! We made the reservation months ago and got there to find out it's been replaced by a $25 voucher so you can go stand awkwardly in the restaurant then bring your food back to your room yourself. That's not $25 per day or even per person, you get $25 for your entire stay. Which, based on the prices of the food, means one person gets to eat for free and you're forced to spend more money at the restaurant to get food for two people. Being nickel and dimed over food is always such a luxurious experience. After spending the morning of my wedding trying to find a quick breakfast from somewhere else (the restaurant doesn't even open until 8, so if you have plans in the morning it's useless), we were woken up the following day at 10am by housekeeping knocking on the door then opening it, so my wife and I had to shout "no don't come in" while trying to figure out what was going on and find clothes. We had the room booked through the next morning and checkout is at 11, why would housekeeping be coming around at 10am? I would have put out a do not disturb sign but there wasn't one available. What a relaxing spa-like atmosphere! The staff are hit or miss, the front desk staff were extremely kind and understanding but the night we arrived there were a bunch of employees standing around on the steps outside laughing and smoking while we were moving things to our room. Nothing says boutique hotel like being leered at and breathing cigarette smoke. The room itself was extremely overpriced, we went for the penthouse since it was a special occasion and the extra cost (on top of the higher than average rates they charge for normal rooms) was a complete waste. They put the worst bed in the most expensive room, hard and lumpy which makes sense when it's sat on a $80 rolling metal frame with bent supports underneath. There's also a ledge within the first 4 feet of walking into the space, it is technically labeled but if you're walking in carrying something that blocks your view of the floor (like, oh I don't know, maybe some luggage?) you're likely to miss it. We were lucky that I caught myself, but for an older person that could have been a trip to the hospital. They might need to update their website where they claim the rooms are "about comfort and careful curation". To their credit, when I told them about all the issues they did issue a ~10% refund of the total price of a three day stay that we cut short and left on the second day. It's a nice gesture, although we could have saved like 90% of the cost and gotten a better experience at the nearest chain motel. When I think "luxury life hotel" I don't picture $25 restaurant coupons and bedframes sourced from a garage sale, but maybe I'm just uncultured.
