Worst dental office in the area. They kept charging me every time I went in and finally after the 4th time, I asked them why I really needed to pay for these random charges (no other dental offices have ever charged me despite me having the same insurance). Thats when they told me it was optional and they can remove the charge because I complained about it. The staff at the front desk were all very rude and incompetent. They kept giving me incorrect and wrong information about my insurance; they told me I already used up all my annual cleanings and needed to pay out of pocket, which was not true. I switched over to Haru Dental in Old Torrance and they never charged me extra for anything and have way better and more advanced equipment there than at Smilewell. Do yourself a favor and go to any number of other dental offices in the South Bay instead of going here. I have proof of all the elective charges that eventually the receptionist told me they would reverse the charge for me only because I complained. If the dental office tries to deny it, I will post all the proof and expose them.

Smilewell let us down for a recent treatment I had with them. They checked my insurance coverage before the procedure and the procedure was covered. I paid the out of pocket costs before the procedure and got the procedure done. Later, insurance denied the payout on the grounds that the Smilewell did not demonstrate the evidence that the procedure was needed. Inspite of multiple appeals, Smilewell could not demonstrate any evidence of the need for the procedure. Two independent medical practitioners evaluated the appeals and denied them for the same reason. Now I am stuck with a large bill due to discrepancy between Smilewell and Insurance provider. I talked to the front office, billing department and my dentist. I assumed the case was settled after the discussion. However, to my surprise they sent my account to collections without even trying to bring closure directly with me. This is after our family has been going to Smilewell for over five years. We even referred some of our close friends to Smilewell. Huge mistake! We are switching to another provider and letting our referred friends know so they dont have to go through this experience. Be extra careful when dealing with Smilewell, always take second opinion to avoid any insurance denials.

The truth (that I rarely admit to friends and family) is that I hadnt seen a dentist in over 4 years. I dont even have a good excuse (just bad anxiety). So, I was extremely grateful to have found SmileWell Family Dentistry when I was experiencing a minor dental emergency. They fit me in the same day I called, and they were able to ease my dental anxiety quite a bit because they were so friendly and so gentle during treatment. My emergency was addressed right away and I enjoyed the office vibes so much that I just went back for my annual cleaning. My second visit was just as fantastic as the first, too. Their offices are tidy, they have off street parking, and the professionals at the front desk are wonderful and welcoming. Plus, the doctors and dental technicians are warm and empathetic to patients. Regardless of your history, they listen to your concerns and address your questions up front. I am so grateful to have found a local dentist that I will be going back to!!
