Barton initially handled the mediation of my divorce in 2014; and subsequently has handled a modification of the original divorce decree, and most importantly to me, always been willing to field a call from time to time to briefly discuss issues either of us (my ex and I) have had questions about throughout the years. I actually spoke with him today and decided to write this. He works to fairly consider both sides; and never left me feeling like there was any favoritism toward either of us...

Hired Barton as a mediator for divorce. He walked us through the process with great advice. He was patient, and knowledgeable. He made sure that all was fair between both parties.

I chose Barton Pokras to be my divorce attorney because he understood my objectives and respected and shared my ethics. I interviewed 5 other attorneys to represent me in my case and Barton was the only one willing to listen to my concerns and wants with regards to how I wanted the proceedings to go. I was most impressed as he spelled out the various options as we walked through a very difficult time in my life. Barton is an ethical, compassionate lawyer who protected my children and my dignity through the entire horrible process. Divorce is an awful thing for any family to have to go through. I am proud to say that Barton was and is my attorney.

During your divorce process, especially if it's a long and complicated one like mine, you will get the question often from people, "Do you like/Are you happy with your lawyer?" People seemed surprised when I answered unreservedly, "Yes!"I interviewed several family law solicitors in the days after my husband of 25 years suddenly filed for divorce. The only one who seemed to understand the outcome I was hoping for and had any inclination to help me achieve it was Barton. I left his office able to breathe again for the first time in 5 days. When a divorce includes international and hidden assets, Barton will stick with it to make sure that everything comes to light. The lawyers that I interviewed before Barton told me that what I hoped to get in my settlement was impossible. Yet in the end, thanks to Barton's patient, smart, and skilled representation, it's exactly what I got.I have a lot of gratitude to Barton and his team, for their kindness, encouragement, and support. I would recommend Barton to anyone looking for a divorce attorney.

Absolutely Horrible!!! Hired Barton due to his reputation for collaborative divorce. However, when my ex retained a litigation oriented lawyer, I specifically asked him if he felt comfortable dealing with this. He bragged about how he has a reputation for being a tough in the court room when need be. Turned out he didn't know which way was up. Opposing counsel threatened to file a domestic violence restraining order and he immediately turned tail and ran. He told me I had no choice but to sign my wife's stipulations. Per Barton: during the restraining order hearing, I would have to testify thus incriminating myself for my criminal hearing. I found out later this was completely untrue. The family judge would not have forced me to incriminate myself, she would have just issued a temporary restraining order until after the criminal hearing, which was refused by the DA. Barton had NO CLUE that this is what should have been done, in spite of his bragging. Instead he strongly advised me to sign orders that put me at a severe, severe disadvantage from which I had to spend a lot of time and money to fight back from. When I pointed out my ex violated the very orders she had me sign, When Barton didn't want to make a big deal of it, he didn't want to "anger" opposing counsel! Really?!!? Only after arguing with him for 10 minutes he reluctantly agreed to write a letter to opposing counsel. After he notified me he sent it, he had the audacity to brag about how he is normally easy going except when his client's rights are being trampled! I couldn't believe he said that! It was at that point I decided to switch lawyers. The other big mistake he made was when I initially hired him, I instructed him I wanted to file for divorce while pursuing a collaborative divorce at the same time. Thus if the collaborative process failed the court process would have been started, "hope for the best, prepare for the worst." He advised against it because that would send a bad sign to the other side. He seems to be more worried about opposing counsel than his own clients! So when I did have to go to court to fight the orders to get my rights back and to start the divorce process, it was delayed due to the delay in starting the divorce process. If you're absolutely sure both sides are pursuing a collaborative divorce, then Barton might be for you. If there is any chance whatsoever that the divorce might become contentious, either stay away or switch lawyers immediately!
