Ill be honest: Ive always thought of professional landscape services as excessively expensive, especially considering how many stories Ive heard re: run-up costs, shortcuts, and disappearing acts. But I live in a nice neighborhood, and most of my neighbors are either affluent, with professionally manicured properties, and/or retired, with the time and dedication to make their outdoor DIY projects professional quality. Im neither of those things, so Ive struggled to keep my property in line, doing most things myself and utilizing every budget contractor who slipped a flyer under my door when I needed help. But my attitude toward professional landscaping changed a couple years ago, when I came across BCL by chance encounter.
I was trying to troubleshoot a completely dead irrigation zone in my front lawn (my *discount* sprinkler guy wasnt returning my calls), when I saw a man working on my neighbors sprinklers. Desperate, I approached him, and he agreed to help without hesitation. He spent over a half an hour assessing my sprinkler issues and even took the time to dig thru my hobo bag of sprinkler parts to help me replace a couple broken heads. Mind you, this was after 6:00pm on a Saturday evening, I wasnt a client, let alone on his schedule, and he was working 14-hour days to start the summer. He didnt even ask me my name. But I asked for his and the very next day I called his company - Bowman Custom Landscaping - to set up an official service appointment.
I now know that the great guy who helped me that night is named Christian, and he is the ultimate Sprinkler Guru at BCL. He still often works 14-hour days, but he always makes time to fit me in and he seems to know everything about everything irrigation. Aara, the office manager, is just as friendly, helpful and responsive as Christian is and she also has an incredible knack for finding the perfect cross-section between what you want and what you can afford. So, I still get my budget prices, but with the *luxury* service and quality that BCL provides. Other honorable mentions include Rod, the honest and knowledgeable head of the company, and Antonio, the crew lead, who has a level of perfectionism that you have to admire (think: re-laying an existing flagstone path so that its more uniform or re-organizing unsightly lumber stacks so the area looks pristine, all at no extra charge).
Have I spent more money with BCL than I would have doing all the work myself, or chasing down the latest no-name coupon? Yes. But theres no doubt in my mind that when it comes overall workmanship, service and value, Im coming out waaay ahead with BCL. Cant recommend them enough.
