Excellent dojo to learn traditional Karate-Do, specializing in the style of Shotokan. Gary Sensei and Candice Sensei are absolutely amazing and are exceptional instructors of this art including their senior instructors. This dojo is perfect for any age level. Excellent discipline for younger children and great physical development for even adult students. This is a true martial arts institution and NOT a mcdojo like so many other martial arts schools out there. Highly recommend this school if you are interested in training in the martial arts for yourself or your children, you will not regret it.

Not only are the programs absolutely phenomenal and is the location perfectly situated, but what sets this place above anywhere else is the owners. Sensei Isao Gary and Sensei Candice never condescend to the students, regardless of age or skill level. Their interactions with parents outside of class is always welcoming and they never hesitate to help or answer questions when an inept parent (me) messes up yet again. In my many years of sports and martial arts for myself and our kids, I have not encountered a better instructor team. Their patience radiates, somehow calming a room of what should be chaotic children into happy, excited students every time. It's simply magic. Let's be honest, martial arts studios are about a dime a dozen geographically it seems and there is a lot of programs that could work for you or your kids, but none of them will be perfectly suited because they won't have these two. Choose Colorado Budokan, you won't regret it.

This place is amazing. As a former martial artist I searched for a dojo that offered a traditional style taught in an authentic way. Colorado Budokan is that dojo. Our whole family is there. The instructors are welcoming and encouraging while maintaining the balance of discipline and effectiveness. When you bow in class is serious and everybody is there to learn and teach. When you bow out everyone is supportive and genuine. There is a family like dynamic amongst the students and teachers that is difficult to find elsewhere. If you are looking for a dojo that is the perfect mixture of strength, traditional style, community, and amazing instructors look no further. Colorado Budokan is the place to be.

So I enrolled my son here, and the folks are nice enough, but when it came to testing, half of the kids didn't know what they were doing, and everyone just got passed a belt. What incentive is there for kids to try hard when it doesn't really matter if they try or not? When I was in Karate, we had to try hard just to get a stripe, or 2 or 3. These people are passing out belts like a free meal on Colfax. I wouldn't recommend. You should be awarded based on skill, not on if you pay your monthly bill.
