Definitely a tricky road for a low clearance vehicle, but I was able to make it within 0.5 miles of the trailhead with a normal Mazda CX5 with AWD without too much difficulty. Once you get 0.5mi from the trailhead theres a couple section that require 4wd or at least decent clearance due to washout and rocks. The trailhead itself it fairly small, but there is a massive, ha, amount of dispersed camping all down the road. I couldn't see all the spots being filled even on a holiday weekend. Parking: The actual parking lot is just a large pullout, and would probably fit 6-8 cars. But the entire area is USFS dispersed camping area, so parking is never going to be an issue. Fees: No fees Restrooms: No restrooms

Stayed at the Elbert Creek campground. Scaled Mt. Elbert and decided to follow up with Mt. Massive. Checked the route and having figured that Class 1 route from Mt. Massive parking is like 14 miles long whereas Class 2 route from North Halfmoon Creek trailhead is just 7.5 miles (both distances are round-trips). Have to hike up the Halfmoon road for about 2.5 miles though (we did not have a 4x4, if we had, we could have driven right to the trailhead). Trail is nice, a little tedious in places, where you need to navigate some scree, but rather fast and you get to enjoy fantastic panorama at the summit. Went back using Class 1 South route as afternoon thunderstorm was about to start from the South East and we did not want to walk 2.5 miles miles down the road again. Going down Class 1 route was a breeze. You almost skip it down the path.

Didn't want to scrape up our stock 4wd Z71 Tahoe so we camped .5 mi before the SW slopes trailhead. Nice camping, no toilet or anything. Adding the extra mile to our round trip didn't help. This was a challenging route. Restrooms: None
