Weve only been here for 3 months, but we love our JS Home! Pros: You can have sheds Everyone is extremely nice Houses are far enough apart/away from one another Its on way more land than you can find being sold in Middletown today Its private enough you dont need to worry about airports, trains, or air pollution from living next to a busy road We were looking at other builders beforehand, but the location and house size is what drew us to buy a JS Home. We wanted lots of land and we own almost an entire acre! When looking at other builders the lot sizes ranged between .3 to .5 acres and the houses were on top of each other, it was too busy for us, but in this neighborhood, everything is beautiful and spacious. Other builders also built next to busy roads/areas which was noisy/polluted, but in our home, we enjoy a nice quiet day out without having to hear trains, airplanes, trucks, or loud commuting traffic go by. For the price of other builders, we could probably buy a 4,000 sqft home, but with JS not only can we get a 5,000 sqft home, but we can also customize it to our liking! My husband and I both work from home so we needed 2 offices. We had JS help customize our home to accommodate for that extra room. Want to add skylights somewhere? Done. Want to move your sliding door to another wall? Done. Customizing our home was extremely easy. Cons: I think there was miscommunication on things we thought were standard in the model home (but they werent), so it bit us in the butt down the road. We found out that the beautifully spacious glass shower in the master bathroom was an upgrade (the seat in the shower is an EXTRA shower upgrade base shower storage is one dinky toothpick shelf). Also, the fireplace raised hearth is an upgrade too. Open stairs are an upgrade. I felt like the list of upgrades that they gave you initially did not include everything, so it was a bit of a nuisance, but luckily, we caught those issues in time and were able to resolve them. Things I wish we did differently: -We got our exterior doors painted black but assumed the side-window area would also be included but apparently that's extra. I wish we had asked/learned about that earlier. -Extended the basement height to how the model house has it. We finished our basement and there is a noticeable difference in height compared to the model and once they box in the HVAC ceiling units it feels little tight down here. Get the upgrade - trust me, it's worth it. -Added a ceiling fan to the "Family Room" because if you don't do the loft option, in the winter the warm air sits up on the second floor, and it's a waste of heating. I wish we had a fan to blow it back down and circulate. Aside from that, the pros outweigh the cons, and I feel like as they build more houses that those issues will resolve themselves because they will know what homebuyers expect to see listed in the upgrade list. Note that your home is warrantied for a year from settlement, so you can always e-mail customer service with any issues on warrantied items. Customer service is good about getting you in contact with the trades to schedule a time convenient with your schedule to come out and look/fix your issues. Weve had our fair share of hiccups, but the builder has been very good to us in sending people out to fix it. The site superintendent really cares a lot about his craftmanship and the neighbors, so hes really bent over backwards to help us fix our issues when customer service gets busy.
