DC DMV Vehicle Self-Inspection Kiosk

Unfortunately the screen wasn't working for me and I was unable to pass Step 1. There was no keyboard showing to manually enter my VIN and it wouldn't scan the barcode on my door. Very frustrating for what is supposed to be a convenient option!

This is an update to my 2022 review. In 2022, the kiosk did not work at all. However, during my most recent visit in March 2024, the kiosk worked perfectly for my inspection renewal. Being able to get this done early on a Sunday morning meant the whole thing took less than 10 minutes. This is a great use of technology, and I hope DC will continue to install (and maintain) these throughout the city.

This place is a godsend. Placed a good distance from the Half Street inspection station, but worth the trip. No lines ever (that I've experienced.) The machine walks you through the whole process, prints out the necessary paperwork, you get your sticker in the mail days later. It all works like a charm. No wait, no early-morning line-ups all the way around the block from Half Street, no clowns cutting in line, no surly staff. In reviewing other comments, I think I've been lucky that the process has worked for me. But boy when it doesfive stars for sure. UPDATE (Feb 8, 2024): DDOT official shared in my ANC meeting last night that they're adding one of these in Ward 8.
