Hyatt Place Washington Dc/Us Capitol

First off I would like to say, we usually stay at Hyatts because we love how clean and comfortable they are, but this one did not meet our expectations and we were very disappointed. It is very centrally located to all visitor sites/museums, metro, ect but it is located in not a great neighborhood. They do not offer parking unless you are willing to pay for valet, which is 65$ a night after tax!! We did park there the first night and after decided to park on the street. It is hard to find a spot on the street but its ok once you do. The only thing is, we worried how safe our car was, after we saw the neighborhood around the corner. The part that we were most bothered with, was the condition of the hotel. I understand its an older Hyatt but it is not kept well. Chairs and tables in the lobby were stained and dirty, even after hours of breakfast service. I dont understand why chairs cant be steamed cleaned or everything else in this building. It made us question how clean the room was. Like I said, never have we been more disappointed with a Hyatt. One plus, Staff is friendly especially our day valet guy. I was so disappointed that we checked out a night earlier and stayed somewhere else.

I totally enjoyed my stay there. The staff were all personable and helpful. The free breakfast was truly outstanding, when compared to the typical "continental breakfast" hotels provide. The Capitol is about a 1.2 mile "straight-shot" walk on North Capitol Street. The rooms and the hotel are beautiful. They have a well-equipped fitness room. In the neighborhood, there is a Mediterranean bowl place and a Moe's. A little further, there is a Trader Joe's.

The hotel is very nice with all the amenities we needed on our family vacation. We were a little unsure of the neighborhood but it was actually very convenient to the metro and a few restaurants as well as a CVS. Breakfast buffet was fantastic. The staff was often overwhelmed though. While they were very professional and kind they often couldnt provide what we needed like more towels because they didnt have the backup to leave the front desk. Overall it was a good experience.
