Public comment meetings at this City Council are very unprofessional. Their constituents come to speak, often waiting for over an hour to do so, and the majority of the council will be on their phones, walk away to go do something else, and are just generally uninterested in what anyone has to say. In fact one councilman, Rory Diamond, will even record videos of constituents and make defamatory accusations about them online in the middle of these meetings. When there is a large turnout of enthusiastic constituents, something the council should encourage, they instead reduce everyone's speaking time, often to the degree that it's impossible for an ameteur speaker (as the average constituent would be expected to be) to get any kind of point across. There is a very palpable atmosphere that they treat any kind of meeting with the public as a box they have to begrudgingly check.

The Jacksonville City Council, without any public referendum or public vote, and with over 51% of the Jacksonville population against this expenditure, put the burden of billions of dollars on the taxpayers for a new Jacksonville Jaguars stadium and a large percentage of people here in Jacksonville don't even have an interest in football. They, in fact, improved the stadium a few years ago and actually put a swimming pool in for those who have money to watch the game from the pool. Again the public, who have no money and are pushed by increasing rents and increasing home prices are paying for that too. In addition, they approved JEA's electricity basic rate to go up by 333% in 2 years. We should pay taxes for fair housing prices and for help with the middle class as we are paying all of the bills so that those with money can enjoy luxuries when we can't afford an apartment THE PUBLIC NEVER GETS A SAY ABOUT HOW THEIR MONEY IS SPENT AND WE JUST KEEP PAYING THE BILLS FOR THE RICH. HOW DARE THEY!!!!
