Hampton Inn Tampa/Rocky Point-Airport

Stayed at this Hampton in in January and was totally disappointed with many details. Hotel is not up to Hampton/Hilton standards with peeling wall paper and dirty paint on the walls. This hotel needs to be refreshed badly. People were nice like all Hamptons but the floor in the bathroom was so dirty that the bathmat towel was blackened when it got wet. Entrance to the room floor was so slimmy that my wife almost slipped upon entry. The furniture in the room was broken and very worn out. Finally we ate food out of the vending machines because it was late when we arrived and my wife got violently ill. After inspection of the packaging it was way past the expiry date. also the shuttle service is operated by an outside company that picks up patrons from many hotels it took almost an hour to get picked up at the airport and another 45 minutes to get to the hotel. Save your money there are better choices for hotels near the airport to choose from.

BEWARE SCAMS; Asked to extend our stay an extra day. The desk clerk refused saying that she needed a debit card despite the fact that we had already stayed a night and paid with our first card, a cashapp card we use for trips and stays because it's easy to lock and more secure. She refused to take the card she had already charged. Feeling suspicious, we decided to switch hotels instead. We called customer service which confirmed that the card we used should not be a problem especially since it was already charged the day before. Later we discovered that just as we were asking if we could extend the stay the hotel attempted to charge $25 and then $75 to the card without authorization, both of which declined because the card was locked, which we now feel was the reason the clerk tried to get us to put a different card on file. Well it was good that we didn't because, a couple of hours after we left they attempted to charge a whole $250 to the original card. Beware!! I've seen this before. They are "borrowing" money. This hotel will attempt to charge you hundreds in extra money, claim it's a "bank hold" and you will have to wait days for the refund to come through. Then they just charge the amount to another guest to replenish the amount that they had to return. Do not put a debit card on file and if so make sure you communicate with your bank about not allowing extraneous unauthorized charges and holds!!
