        This is my second year with HLM and the customer care dropped drastically. My business returns were overlooked and HLM did not file an extension. I was charged $2640 in penalties from IRS because of their mistake. I had requested through email, phone and messages and assured all was good until it was not. If you are not a self advocator when it comes to filing taxes, or someone knowledgeable about different deadlines and what needs to be filed, I would not suggest HLM. In hindsight, they say they cannot file my taxes until the bill is paid in full for their services, but I did not receive any billing statement from them until September which was over 6 months after I turned my corporate statements in. Here I was thinking they were behind on their billing when really, they had not filed my taxes. They did not communicate to me that there was an outstanding bill, nor did they say anything about penalties.

      Jamie,I am terribly sorry to hear that this was your experience. This was a transition year from the purchase of the other firm and we sent multiple communications for information to clients via our portal and Constant Contact. Your returns, both personal and business were both extended timely. If for some reason IRS did not post the extensions we filed, then please send us the notice and we will dispute this with IRS. This is the first I am hearing about the amounts charged in this Google review.The corporate deadline was March 15th and we received your tax information for the corporate return from your bookkeeper on Sunday, March 12th. Our firm communicated multiple times that we needed corporate information no later than March 1st in order to complete the corporate return timely.Our front office sends multiple reminders about missing information along with detailed information about filing deadlines and deadlines that we need met in order to file timely as well as the invoice along with all filing instructions and amounts due at the time the return is finished. Since we filed the corporate extension timely, we were not aware IRS was going to make a mistake and not post the extension and send you a bill. Again, I am happy to dispute this for you with IRS as I have a delivery confirmation of the extension being received by IRS.I am happy to forward to you the emails sent with the invoice and the filing instructions. We do collect before filing the return as this is our only product that we sell and we find it hard to collect once the returns are filed. We work very hard to over communicate with our clients about all deadlines, document needs and amounts due. I am truly sorry this was not your experience. I am happy to work through any IRS oversight on the amount they billed you if they billed you for failure to file an extension as we filed all extensions timely for you.
