Stayed in July 2019. Beautiful place but Bernie is extremely rude and aggressive. Due to a late flight, I had to travel on the bus to Kalani at night (I did message Kalani lodge in the day and call and left a voicemail to let them know that I would be arriving late). Anyway, I accidentally got off the bus a couple of stops too soon and had to walk the rest of the way, upon walking a guy tried to get me into his car, I ran to Kalani lodge where the gates were shut and I called out for help. The next door neighbour who had just pulled into her drive way didnt help and ran into her house (she seemed scared, maybe its known for trouble there at night). Bernie eventually let me in and scolded me and shouted at me for arriving so late and told me that I couldnt have been chased by a man because everyone around there was friendly (wonder if he was attempting to control the reputation of the area, whilst simultaneously gaslighting me). I was made to feel extremely unwelcome and felt extremely uncomfortable during my stay. I never did write a review at the time because I was young and naively thought that this was all my fault, however now that I am older I realise I was treated abhorrently and have seen a few reviews where young girls have had similar treatment from Bernie.

Kalani Hawaii is an amazing place. The location is perfect whether you're surfing or not. The grounds are beautiful and well kept and the rooms, bathrooms, kitchen, and eating area are spotless. Your host, Bernie, is outstanding. A North Shore legend in his own right, Bernie can answer any question you have about the North Shore, from surf spots to sight seeing locations. He is always there to help and make sure your trip is going well. Bernie will even take you to different locations if you ask although I saw him on a number of occasions offer rides without any prompting. Kalani Hawaii is a wonderful alternative to "normal" accommodations both cost and experience wise. Well done Bernie and Maria!

We stayed in the yellow ginger loft, the view and setting were gorgeous, and it was a great location to explore the North shore. Despite many shared facilities, it was exceptionally clean - even cleaner than most hotels. The best part was having Bernie who was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the area! We loved staying here and it went by in a flash.

We stayed in the ginger loft and had an awesome experience. The rooms were clean and had a lovely view. The bathrooms are shared but were always available and immaculately clean. The shared kitchen had everything you could need and the outdoor space was incredible with lots of seating and a beautiful garden. Bernie was the best part of the stay, he cares about his property, the local area and his guests and has lots of tips on how to spend your day. You can't be bored in North Shore staying with Bernie.
