        I believe the mauna kea is actually the best place to stay on the big island. When I do stay there I stay in one of the villas. The four seasons is often considered "higher end" but to me the history and the upgrades made to the Campus make it #1 in my book. Plus. It could save you 2 or 3 thousand dollars...lol. if you go, rent a villa. So much more space and 10 or 12 of them have ocean views like unit 20. It also has the best beach on the island. The amenities are few and the service could be improved but the location and accommodations for the big island are the best. I included some views from the villa we rented

        The Mauna Kea offers a timeless, luxury vacation experience. The Villas are perfect homes for 2 - 12 guests, with access to all of the amenities the Mauna Kea Resort and Hapuna Beach Resort have to offer.
