This tour provided very interesting information about how Cocoa is grown and how it is processed into chocolate. We got to sample 5 small pieces of different types of fine chocolate, unfortunately for me these didnt taste significantly different than a regular chocolate bar. After the tour at the farm we went to their store for a few more very small samples. This provided an opportunity to buy some of their chocolate which was pretty pricey. The tour was fine but pretty expensive as compared to the experience.

Takes the chocolate seriously but in a relaxed setting. Informative, especially appreciated learning about cacao growing. Generous tasting. There's just a tiny bit of walking on the farm, but I'd contact them if you have any mobility concerns. Would absolutely recommend - we've taken an intro class on chocolate making, and still found this to be very informative (and delicious - we bought 7 bars to take home!).

We recently took this tour with Mike and really enjoyed it. One member of our party had been to a chocolate farm tour with a different company on the Big Island and in comparison Honoka'a's chocolate tour was far superior. It is more intimate, you get to sample nearly every flavor of chocolate they sell, and personally I like hearing from the person who creates the chocolate and started the company rather than an employee hired to run tours. We enjoyed being able to have part of the tour on the estate and the other part at the store. We enjoyed trying the chocolate tea, and really liked the size of chocolate samples at the estate. When we tasted the chocolate chip-sized samples at the store we all wished they were slightly bigger. Not complaining, I think it was in part because we were trying to taste the nuanced differences and in our inexperience it felt a little trickier with the smaller size. Two of those chips probably would have done the trick. Otherwise, we all walked away feeling really happy we chose this chocolate tour. Mahalo!

We took this tour today and cannot say enough good things about it. Mike was an incredible guide and teacher, and his passion for his craft really shows. We really learned so much!! If you want to learn about every step in the chocolate making process along with the subtleties that go into this craft chocolate then this is the tour for you. We were uncertain after reading some of the negative reviews but let me assure you this tour is worth every penny! Such an incredible experience.

We had such a fantastic time learning about the different varieties of cacao tree while touring the cacao orchard. It was very interesting to hear how the trees fruit, and the processes the fruit undergoes in order to make chocolate. Mike is clearly very Knowles able and answered all the questions presented to him by the group with ease. The tasting was delicious and gave us all time to savor the different types presented and determine our favorite variety.

Thank you so much, Terri, for your thoughtful review and kind words. Mike and I have talked about it, and he feels it’s important for him as the owner, farmer, and chocolate maker to give the tours. We are so glad you appreciated that aspect of your experience! We always look for ways to improve, and since the factory store is still somewhat new, we are frequently changing things to improve the customer experience. We will discuss the sample size. Thank you again, and we hope you’ll stop by again on your next visit! Aloha!
