PHE is a great school for starting a career in phlebotomy. Most of the students are Filipino & so are the staff; but they speak good English and give clear directions. One thing I wish this school had was an externship (like the program at KCC has). You are allowed to practice on your volunteers & your classmates but if you're looking to work in a inpatient hospital setting, this kind of experience is mostly non-transferrable (because practicing on healthy people is different from practicing on patients that have mental illnesses or are hard sticks). Tips for Future Students: Register early & start studying as soon as you recieve your booklet. It's short, so you shouldn't take too long to go through all the material. Take very detailed notes and add to them during lecture. Memorize order of draw, procedures, & places you can draw from as best as you can. Draw as often and as many people as you can because the more experience the better; practice your AIDET at the same time as well. You won't be great at it at first but with all things, you will get better with time. Tips for Future Phlebotomists: Start looking for job openings early & take the time to make a Linkedin to network, and a well tailored resume. Some places to search: CLH, DLS, US Renal, Fresenius, Hospitals & Blood Bank of HI. Learn how to use all the different kinds of needles & gauges (butterfly, straight, syringe). Watch lots of Youtube videos & I wish the best of luck to all of you!

I just got off the phone with a woman while I was inquiring about recertification. She was so incredibly rude and condescending for no reason at all. Arguing with me about every answer I had for every question she asked me. I finally just hung up on her. I will be spending my money somewhere else.
