Pros: the staff is professional but not overly friendly; hotel sits right on the water; nice pool, hot tub, and lots of seating in the open courtyard facing the ocean; very good complimentary coffee in the morning and several good restaurants are nearby and in walking distance
Cons: overall the hotel is dated and in need of an update or remodel; food at their restaurant is so-so for dinner; our ocean-view room really didn't have an ocean view; wifi was slow.

This is a mixed bag. The good news is it is family-friendly. The bad news is it is family-friendly!! If you are looking for a place that is quiet and relaxing for couples, this is NOT the place for you, except early in the morning and later in the evening when it is dark. There is an infinity pool, but it is overrun with kids doing cannonballs and is not suitable for adults during the day. Nobody supervises the pool. Guests often cannot get their hands on pool towels. There isn't even a station for pool towels. If you're lucky, you might get one from the front desk. Otherwise, they might send you on a wild goose chase as I saw one pool guest having to run around asking staff for one.
Facilities: The facilities are dated but the rooms are good enough with comfortable beds and a large TV. The bathrooms don't have an exhaust fan. The balconies are ridiculously small and only big enough for one person to sit in. The "Ocean View" room we booked had a decent view of the ocean but also of the pool. If you want a true ocean view only room, you probably need to book an Ocean Front room or suite.
The breakfast has some good menu options, or you can choose the buffet for $35. Part of the Kauai charm is that you will have hens, chicks, roosters, and small doves wandering around in the restaurant area by your feet!
The Crooked Surf and Fire Hen restaurants (really just one with 2 menus) are by the poolside. Food options are decent. I recommend trying the Dynamite bowl. Unfortunately, with the exception of a couple of staff members, the service is quite poor. Maybe they are understaffed, but I've had better service in fast food joints. For the most part, they will take an order, someone will drop off the food and then the wait staff only comes back to see if you're ready to pay. If you want any possibility of getting served halfway decently, sit close to the bar.
Service at the Daybreak restaurant for breakfast was good.
Front Desk - Generally poor to indifferent service. No one asked us if we wanted help with our luggage when we checked in. No one asked us if we needed help when it was time to check out. It's like the staff doesn't have any basic customer service skills to make it a memorable experience. Overall, customer service experience is not up to what you'd expect from a resort. Probably what a regular Day's Inn is like. Not a great example for Sheraton.
Having said all that, we did manage to enjoy our time in the late evening when the pool is closed and sitting on the beach can be beautiful, albeit windy. The clientele isn't pretentious, so that's a positive.
At the end of the day, if you have kids, this place might be for you. If you're a couple looking to actually use the pool without the fear of a terror-tot or teenager cannonballing on top of you, keep looking. There might be other options. If we come back to Kauai, we will probably look at other options before coming back here.
Note too all the generic feedback to the reviews of people with problems. No offers to comp or make things right. I don't need anything, but looking at some of the reviews, I hope they were refunded for some of their costs.

Not happy with service. I wasn't sure if I was an employee or customer. Ac did not work properly, had to track down housekeeper and front desk to get my room cleaned, coined laundry listed on room flyer is different amount than actual charge, room was not ready upon arrival at 4:50pm. The night desk agent Upson check out was nice and concierge lady was nice.
Noteworthy details: Ac doesn't work, it was hot in rooms.

Steps from the beach and walking distance to shopping ti's is a beautiful resort. Great restaurants and bar, sparkling pool and plenty of guest anemities. Friendly, approachable staff. The Consiers go above and beyond to make sure your plans are amazing and special. They followed up to make sure everything was perfect. They are funny and great to interact with. The hotel is spotless and beautiful. Rooms are big, quiet, and have great views.
