As a physical therapy private practice owner, I’ve been in-network with Ohana Health Plan for > 5 years. They used to be decent in terms of approving sessions for physical therapy as well as reimbursement. Over the past 2 years, they have changed their policies significantly to boost their bottom line at the expense of their members and healthcare providers. Since I only know the PT side, I can give a few examples for my specific profession. When patients come in for the first visit, they require prior authorization to continue treatment. The authorization request has to be sent to them within 2 days or else they won’t accept it. Once they receive it it can take up to 2-4 weeks for them to respond, often times the request just gets lost period, so the patient never gets services approved. Also, the reimbursement rate has declined significantly for physical therapy services. It’s getting to a point that most PT clinics no longer accept their insurance plan because the amount they pay no longer covers the cost of doing business! If you are considering choosing Ohana as your health insurance, I’d recommend other companies that put more value into patient care and respect for the providers they work with.

Hawaii is most definitely a beautiful state. I love the beaches, the people and the stores and so much more. But you guys could care less about your seniors and your low income families. I guess this is why you guys are ranked the worst state in America for people who are on Medicare and Medicaid.

Eww Its a no for me
Yea no, how is Hawaii ranked the nicest state in America. But they're ranked the worst state to live in insurance wise for low income families and elders if they're on Medicare and Medicaid. That makes no sense, so in other words Hawaii only cares about its richer population and screw the poor people. That's gross
