The Round Lake Wetland Conservation Area & Nature Preserve includes 188 acres and is managed by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Division of Fish and Wildlife. A small parking lot is located adjacent to Starke County Road 150 East. Other portions of the property are closed to vehicles. No check-in is required. Hiking, mushroom hunting, and wildlife viewing are allowed. The lake is available for fishing subject to State rules, from the shore or boat--but power is limited to electric trolling motors. As a practical matter, gaining access to the lake by boat would be arduous. The most reasonable lake access is not near the parking area. Hunting is allowed on the property subject to State and Federal laws--so a visitor should be particularly vigilant during hunting seasons. ATVs, snowmobiles, open fires, camping, swimming, and horseback riding are prohibited. A committed naturalist may be rewarded by a visit to this property--both in terms of plants and animals. But a casual visitor may be disappointed.
