I was at the open house parent-teacher meeting the other night. It was going well until I came across my sons social studies teachers desk. Completely unsanitary and disgusting. Unorganized and unacceptable. This is a terrible example to give my child.

This school is something else, my son and his friend were horsing around in class, my son had taken one of his friends air pods and was trying to hide it from him as a joke, his friend started chasing my son, and tackled him into a wall. The wall paper barely split open and a little drywall dust came out, and Mr Castaneda, who is the Assistant Principal, called my sons mother to tell her he expects us to cover the cost of the wall repair. i tried contacting Mr Castaneda the same day but didn't get a call back, I actually had to follow up 5 days later on my own. Now I'm not a principle or a assistant principle, but I'm pretty sure I'm a situation like this the proper reactions would have been to pull both boys aside and counsel them on horse play and reprimand them with an appropriate punishment i.e. detention, suspension, etc. So that they can learn from their error, and file an insurance claim as this is exactly what insurance is for. However, Mr Castaneda has decided to demand that we pay for part of the repair or he is suspending our child for a week for destruction of school property, even though our child was not physically aggressive with anybody, and when I brought this point to Mr Castaneda his response was " Well if I was in the other kids shoes I'd probably respond the same way, because those things are expensive!" So now not only is he demanding money from us for something another student did to our child, but he is now advocating physical altercations as a justification for something that should have been handled COMPLETELY differently. When I asked him if he was justifying physical violence in relation to the events leading to this moment he ignored me and yelled "fine you want your son to be suspended?! HE'S SUSPENDED STARTING TOMORROW!!" I asked him for a phone number to the administrative office to further discuss that, his response was more yelling " I DON'T HAVE THAT! YOU CAN LOOK IT UP! " and then he hung up on me. So I'm really confused, is the school that broke that they feel that money is more important than doing the right/normal thing of teaching the kids a lesson by giving an actual disciplinary action? Also, who has allowed this gentleman to believe he can speak to parents the way he does? I was calling to find a solution to the problem and he thinks threatening me with suspending my child for something he didn't do is a viable option for him? You want to give my kid a detention my for touching somebody else's belongings that's fine and I understand that, but my son did not destroy anybody's property. Also, where was the teacher while this was happening? Does the school board even know these things are happening? I wonder what the actual policy on these situations is? Is it to shake down the parents?

I haven't eaten from the cafeteria yet, so the quality of the food will not show up in my review. This school is not very good. I don't know if I don't like it because I moved here, but I hate this school. The teachers do not take proper action when students misbehave, the teachers assign too much homework, and they do not teach the material necessary for the student's future. The only good thing about this school is the band. The band director doesn't just teach, but he interacts and helps the students (he is just egg-scellant). I would not recommend this school.

I came to Grimmer from 2013-2017 and let me tell you, I HATED IT! It was the worst 4 years of my life! Stress was everywhere! First off, the Drop off and Pick Up system, is terrible! I remember walking around the school for 4 minutes in 13 degree freezing weather, just to get inside the building! I did get sick! The tutoring program is garbage! There are only 2 teachers helping 24 students trying to get their grades up and I remember walking out crying because the teachers wouldn't try to help me, and I was failing and was just trying to get my grade up. I remember teachers failing me and not caring about me! Teachers teach in a way you completely don't understand! Teachers just want to see students fail! Teachers assigned way to much homework and I remember spending 2 hours doing homework only to have marked all wrong for no reason! Some teachers were nice and helped make my 4 miserable years a little better, but most of my teachers hated me, didn't care about me and just failed me. I got 3 three detentions while I was here! One for speed walking in the hallways, One for being late once, and one for talking about my dog that passed away. It was completely unnecessary! I was unnecessarily drug tested 8 times during 7th and 8th grade, and they would always say I was randomly selected, when I knew that clearly wasn't the case! After Drug Testing, I would have already missed lunch! I remember having my grade at a B for 3 days and then having dropped to an F and taking 2 weeks just to get it up. Sometimes I just gave up. Mr. Runyan was one of the best teachers I had at Grimmer! He would help me raise my grade when It fell and make my life easier. RIP Mr. Runyan :( The cafeteria food here is trash! Chips are 75 Cents for like 7 chips in a bag and I also found maggots inside the Cheeseburgers! Disgusting! I remember seeing kids being bullied in the hallways and locker rooms. I was also beaten in the locker room in April of 2017 and November of 2014, no one did anything! If you plan on coming to Grimmer, good luck! Get ready to have to worst four years of your life!
