Traveling through town and pulled off to go to this dog park. Waste of time with the locked gate. Not sure why this is becoming a thing. You are all welcome to the amazing dog parks if you come through my home town.

My dog LOVES the Ames dog park! There is so much room for him to just run around and be a dog! The park is big enough that even at busy times, we can find a nice spot for him to chase his ball. The people and other dogs are also all very friendly, I think I like to go as much as he does!

This is a huge dog park with two sections. For years it was open to everyone, but now you need a special city permit to enter. Really bummed my dog and I out when we realized the gate was locked to us commoners.

It's basically a 4-6 acre field with like 8 trees and 3 benches. There's also 2 water fountains. Overall one of the worst city dog parks Ive ever seen. You're honestly better off taking your dogs to gateway hills. They also want $60 a year for access to the field. If ames parks and rec is reading this, plant more trees and show that the stupid amount of money you're making off of this dog park is actually going towards the dog park.
