I went to a podiatrist for left toe foot pain. X-rays and evaluation were done. My left toe showed grade 4 arthritis which was bone on bone, along with a bone spur. He recommended surgery for a toe joint replacement. Another option was a toe fusion but he said I was too young for that and would not be able to bend my toe and walking could be more of a problem. I decided to get a second opinion from Dr. Christy Christophersen M.D. Orthopedic. I told her that my podiatrist Dr. recommended a toe joint replacement over a toe joint fusion. After looking at my X-rays and examining my toe and foot she didnt agree with the podiatrist drs surgery recommendation. She said a toe fusion would be better choice than a toe joint replacement. I was concerned about my left toe not being able to ever bend again with a fusion. She showed me by moving my left big toe saying that it doesnt bend now due to the arthritis. It would be no different after the surgery. I also told her how wearing shoes was getting difficult and causing so much discomfort and pain to that left big toe. We discussed operative and nonoperative interventions. She felt the best success for my toe pain was to do the toe fusion. I just wanted to wear shoes again without having to deal with the intense pain so I made my choice to have the surgery she suggested. I am so happy I had the surgery!! I have no toe pain now while wearing shoes. It was a long 6 week healing process but so worth it. So glad I went for a second opinion. Also after my surgery I talked to a person that had toe joint replacement surgery recommended and performed by the same podiatrist I went to. He had a few problems after that surgery. He then had the same symptoms with his other foot and decided to go to Dr. Christy Christophersen. After X-rays along with foot and toe examinations she recommended a toe joint fusion. He decided to have the surgery she recommended. He told me comparing his feet and how they feel now, the foot with the surgery performed by Dr. Christy Christophersen feels so much better than the foot surgery done by the podiatrist. He wished he would have had her do the toe fusion on both of his feet. She is knowledgeable, professional, and very caring. Love her laugh and upbeat attitude which is so pleasant to hear during doctor visits.

She is the example of how medical practitioners should conduct themselves. She listens to her patient and in asking poignant questions has a conversation about the patient's situation resulting in her providing recommendations that are what the patient needs to know, not what they want to hear. She sits above the top notch.

Dr. Christopherson performed reconstructive surgery on my left ankle. I found her to be easy to work with during the before and after process. Shes very professional, knowledgeable and confident. I like that she was concerned even before surgery that we would have a care plan in place. Our goal was to get me back to better than before, where I could regain my activity level as quickly and safely as possible. Also, during recovery time, she was more than willing to see me or answer questions herself. I know some surgeons drop their patients to the care of their PCP or a podiatrist once they leave the operating room. I am glad I had the choice between seeing a podiatrist or the quality and expertise of an Orthopedic surgeon to care for me.
