I make it a point to visit botanical centers big or small whenever I'm visiting an area. My boyfriend decided to bring me here for a date. Although expected to be somewhat limited, it still fell short of my expectations. He paid $24 for both of us which I found to be quite steep considering the lack of activity/stimulation. The butterfly garden is beautiful as everyone has said. The rest of the gardens are not really worth the admission price. The plants in the conservatory are well-maintained though not so varied. Just the same plants over and over again. I feel like I saw tri-color stromanthes everywhere. I really value places that can showcase their ability to care for a variety of flora. Iowa is not limited to the plants they displayed, especially in a greenhouse. The outside gardens are pretty dead considering the season. It was warm out but not worth walking around. Other than that, there was a banquet room, a gift shop, and a display showing the different stages of metamorphosis a butterfly/moth goes through. I do appreciate how serious they are about the safety of the butterflies. Brownie points for that.
