I haven't attended church here in about 16 years but I keep running into the same issue as why I left with people I encounter from this church. When I was younger, it was gossip about the medical issues I was born with and why they thought I attended church with my grandma and not my parents. I was made fun of in the youth group and it was overlooked. The one time I mentioned it, I was told, "He wouldn't do that. He is being raised in a good, Christian family." As an adult, it's been lies about me. There is a lack of discernment at this church but they seem to know all the right things to say regarding what the bible says about sin. One could say they know how to "talk the talk but don't walk the walk."

So I attended this church for several years from high school and well into my college days. I have been blessed by many of the messages here and there are many lovely people who attend, but there were some negatives that I feel truly hurt me. I was never well known in the youth group and things stayed that way into the CORE group (college age and young adults) as well. I was really struggling a ton in college and going though a lot of metal health issues that ruined my physical self and spiritual life. I won't name names, but a leader in the CORE group saw a post I made about my metal state and asked if we could meet for coffee and I happily agreed. I showed up and thought I got the time wrong cause I was there and he wasn't. I waited for several minutes and then this person arrived. I shared my story and he asked if I knew what the Bible said in reference to my predicament. I said yes and went into detail about what God's word says in regard to me. He then went on to say "Well, seems like you know what to do" and then excused himself and continued by saying "I have another meeting I have to get to, but reach out if you need anything". He was late and left early without saying almost anything. I felt like a complete after thought and he never once spoke to me again or even said hi. I moved to TN years later but moved back to KS about a year and a half ago now. I went back to Grace and saw another un-named person in the bathroom while washing my hands. This person is in leadership training in the church. I knew who this person was but he was more of a friend to my two oldest brother. This person and I never spoke before but he said it was nice to see me again and asked if I was back in the state or visiting. I said I was back for now. He asked why I moved back and I told him I just needed a bit of space from family and friends to try and get my life more on track. He then said "Man, your family always seemed to have a lot of issues". I was incredibly taken back by this comment and that was were the conversation ended. This church truly is good and I would suggest it for most, but these two individuals hurt me a lot and I can't go back. I will say there are some clicks in the church that bothered me and hurt a really dear friend of mine that grew up in this church. She was often overlooked and was not heard even when she attended Bible study. I truly think we were the few that slipped through the cracks though and would say to make your own opinions by going. Truly, there are more great people than negative people.

It's a church aka a temple. You get what you get when you don't listen to what the Bible teaches.
