Attended a graduation at KLETC 21 December 2018. It was disturbing how obese many of the graduates were. Even worse was some of those already in Law Enforcement. I saw an uniformed officer who was not a graduate and appeared to be about 5'8" and had to easily weigh 400 pds. The other disturbing image was how some officers, not graduates, in leadership looked like 3rd world dictators in their gaudy "class A" uniforms. I saw another officer with round gauges in his ears. That's disgusting! These are not good images or standards for Kansas Law Enforcement. I appreciated the fact that the Center recognized those who exhibited and completed superior physical fitness goals during their training. That was good. To be fair, some officers were very professional looking. They looked like rugged, rural, KS. Law Enforcement Officers. That is very good. They wore subdued colored uniforms and did not stand out like a Doper, a 3rd world dictator, or a person who can't let a Casey's or Krispy Kreme donut get away.

The academy is so backwards in training there's a reason why over 70% of other states don't recognize this "certification". The directors are just sitting in the position for claiming another retirement. Which is also humerous because some directors don't even have any proir background in law to begin with. There's no set training since all the miscommunication through instructors and what these admin staff want to push for training. It's ultimately sad how many organizations and departments in Kansas don't even continue the "curriculum" here because they know it's unreliable and doesn't meet officer safety let alone help the state enforce law practically. But let them push a false narrative and have the public keep wondering why officers are looking distasteful.
