Everything we hoped for. My son and I were spending one day in Lexington and wanted to find a course where we could play a round that would not be too tough for us as he's just beginning to play and I'm starting again after 25 years of not playing. Gibson Bay was the perfect option. It's a beautiful course for a very reasonable price. The staff was extremely friendly when I called to schedule a late afternoon tee time. The course was beautiful. There were a few bare spots and some imperfections on the greens, but it's early spring, and that should be expected. It's a gently rolling landscape with fairly straight holes. All the holes with blind tee shots had directional pins, which made it easy for someone who had never played here before. The tee boxes were fine. The fairways were in great shape. Most of them had short rough on both sides and didn't penalize much you for a bad shot. Approach shots were challenging but fair. The front nine was a little less challenging than the back. The back had more hazzards and dog legs but was definitely more interesting. Overall experience was excellent. We finished at 8:00 pm with the beginning of a gorgeous sunset, which topped off a perfect day of golf, except for my personal lack of skill. I can't recommend Gibson Bay enough. We will absolutely be returning next time we're in town.

Ive been playing here for years, the course itself is very nice (for a muni course), it offers some challenging holes, and is almost always in good condition However, I would only recommend going here if you enjoy 5 1/2 hour round of golf. I keep giving this place a chance because I really do like the course, but every single time we go, it feels like there is a group, sometimes 2 groups, on every single hole. I realize the golf course is very popular and pace of play is an issue with any popular course, but Gibson Bay is on another level. Their tee times are only staggered by 10 minutes, I would recommend bumping this up to at least 15, if not 20, and possibly hiring someone to keep monitor the 1st tee box and keep groups on schedule. If you decide to play here, I would recommend weekday mornings.
