Our guide was passionate and fantastic!! The kids learned so much and I cant wait to go back! We also bought some goodies. Parents please note: If youve never spoken to your kids about the cruelty of this world, you might want to have that conversation before going. There are some very hard historical events they will be exposed to. However, the guide did give us a lot of warning before going to that area. Go!

We were limited on time so we decided to just check out the free/small portion in the gift shop area. The information provided showcased the truths of plantation life for people of color instead of glamorizing the reality in favor of the owners + traders. The gift shop also features ethically sourced gifts and literature. We ended up leaving after the free portion to visit Oak Alley.. this was the biggest regret of our trip! We wasted too much time learning nothing of value (on the paid tour) at Oak Valley. We immediately went back to the Whitney Plantation after Oak Valley but they had just closed for the day. Dont make the same mistake we did! I wish we had just toured Whitney instead of choosing what appeared to be the more popular tour at Oak Valley. We regrettably paid over $80 to view trees (at Oak Valley) that we could of seen from the main road for free.
