Acadia hospital has some really good staff an also a nice program, but, it's only going to work if you really want to get that help, just recently I went, and I didn't want to leave, I really would recommend them if you want help, but if you don't then this place isn't going to help you.

Do not come here for counseling. They are the worst. The staff appears to be driven by politics and ideology and is heavily focused on only helping certain groups of people. They sabotage the good work that doctors in the hospital are trying to do. They informed me today that they have nothing to do with the hospital. They told me they are their own entity. I guess that explains the disconnect between counseling and treatment. If you call that department to complain be ready to get jerked around and hung up on. The counseling department does not care about you.

I went to Acadia seeking help for depression. I was evaluated and prescribed a medication that within 4 days was causing adverse reactions, including loss of balance, feelings of paranoia and general malaise. I stopped taking the med as it was making me feel panicky. I phoned to let the prescriber know that I could not tolerate the med. After two weeks, having not heard back, I canceled the follow up appointment, assuming I had been written off. Two weeks after that, a scheduler called me to find out why I had not come to the follow up. I told her the above story. And although I was actually loath to have any further dealings with the hospital, I agreed to speak with the NP again. I did receive a call from the prescribing NP. Since medication was not an option, I told her I would be interested in talk therapy. I said I would be open to driving to Bangor. She said she would get a list of therapists excepting new patients and get back to me. That was 9/22, SEVEN WEEKS AGO! It is not without irony that the lack of care from Acadia staff is depressing.
