image I have lived at Dirigo Pines, in an independent living cottage, for almost 5 years. I love it here. Its a welcoming community where residents can be as sociable or as private as they choose and there is a wide variety of activities for those who wish to participate. A big plus for me is that I dont have to worry about home maintenance. And when it snows, my driveway is plowed and my walkway is shoveled before I finish breakfast!

image I am a resident independent cottager within this multi structured retirement/assistedliving/memorycare complex. There are 62 cottages, and a large 3 story Inn in which there are independent apartments, assisted living, and memory care accommodations. The levels of care this place offers is what attracted us in the first place since it would be fairly simple to adjust the care as we aged. The cottages are full size homes, the Inn apartments large with full size kitchens. The Inn dining room offers superb and varied menus throughout the day at minimal cost to cottagers, and free to Inn residents. All extensive landscaping is attended regularly by a team, and requires no care by the cottage owners. Inside and outside cottage upkeep is handled by the cooperative arrangement with a team of handymen. We now have a fully dedicated cooperative director who is extraordinarily responsive, helpful, knowledgeable and personable. The campus is gorgeous, with ponds, walkways, forested with old stand trees, quiet and tranquil. This is a great place to retire to, being in a small town with a large University of Maine campus, and next to an international airport and the bustling city of Bangor a mere few minutes away. Big box stores' and grocery delivery via phone and computer creates an environment whereby you don't even have to leave your house if you don't want to, but plenty of activities if you do.

image I have been associated, directly and indirectly, with Dirigo Pines Retirement Community since its beginning. Like all human endeavors, it has experienced ups and a few downs. Recently, I have learned that a new employee has been hired to look after the specific needs of the Cottage community, an area that seemed to me a bit forsaken under the organization's current ownership. That hiring has been a giant step forward, returning the Community to its highest standards. Dirigo Pines is always has been a wondrous place to retire, beautifully landscaped, well designed and configured Inn and Cottages, assorted activities, fantastic food, close proximity to the University of Maine and all that it offers, walking distance to a fine golf course, and, best of all, it's in Maine!

image This has been an extraordinary week at Dirigo. I can't commend the staff and volunteers enough for their coordinated effort to put on the Carnival. It was a wonderful diversion from our daily lives and everyone I've talked to sang it's praises (in spite of the temp). It was a huge amount of work and thanks to all.....including you(Paul) and your balloon animals.
Secondly, the volunteer appreciation event overwhelmed me. The statements of appreciation were heart-felt and Anne's personal, handwritten thank you notes reflected her genuine feelings (and hours of work). Lou's (Lew?) amazing culinary offerings were delicious and totally unexpected.
Thanks to all who made these things happen.
