I would like to take a moment and acknowledge the amazing service and support from Maine Properties. While everyone exhibits professionalism, kindness and efficiency, I would like to acknowledge our Property Manager Ashley, as well as Rob and the entire Maintenance team. I have rented from many Property Managers in the greater Portland area over the past 20 years and recommend Maine Properties hands down for all renters in the area seeking housing. I am so fortunate. Where do I begin... My boyfriend and I have been with Maine Properties for 2+ years now and it hasn't been very pleasant. Compared to other apartment complexes there are no amenities included in your rent except for snow removal, 1 labeled parking spot and trash/recycling on-site. There have been some pretty large storms recently and the snow/ice has not been removed until sometimes 2 days later. Our parking spot number has been worn away and other vehicles park there, we rarely get to use the spot that we pay for monthly. Maine Properties has yet to solve the issue, they simply contact the owners of the vehicles. I have been locked out of my apartment outside in the cold due to a power outage and various other issues. I have had to wait 4+ hours to be let back in, only to find out that other tenants living in my building have an access code that I never received at move-in. I had to pay $300 in lock out fees when it couldve been solved with a simple code given to me over the phone. Aside from those complaints, my biggest disappointment in Maine Properties/The Downs Management has been the lack of empathy and personability that the staff has. You are unable to talk to a real person, you are emailed back by Management Staff. I am states away from a support system and have encountered many difficulties at this apartment with no remorse from the management. The support staff sometimes takes weeks to answer your emails, and when they do there is almost never an apology for inconveniencing you. They are very robotic and do not treat you as a person with valid feelings and emotions. If you want to live in a place where you feel respected and valued then I would not recommend Maine Properties because you will be extremely disappointed especially for how much you pay in rent/fees monthly.

We used Maine Properties/Southern Maine Remodeling for repairs after a flooding in our bathroom and to completely gut and re-do our in-law apartment at our house. They did such a fantastic job! They really listened to what we wanted and were super responsive and timely, thanks guys!!

I'm writing to thank you for the quick response to our request for a new stove to replace the malfunctioning one we had. Rob and Peter were professional and polite, showed up on time and worked efficiently to set up the replacement stove. They were great and didn't leave until they were sure that all burners and oven worked properly. Working with Maine Properties maintenance is easy and well organized. Thank you. Gale Mazzei

I rented at Apartments at Brunswick Landing. The apt was clean and new. The walls were thin. I could hear things my neighbors said/did so I didn't use my master bedroom, I used the littler bedroom. I had a couple maintenance issues that were never taken care of even though I reported them. Rent was expensive for a no-frills 2 bedroom with no washer/dryer. That was an extra $85 a month. Why not include the washer/dryer? There's no laundry on site. They told me I had to have my carpets professionally cleaned at moveout or I'd be charged. I've been a renter for 20 years and I've never had to do this. The carpet was new when I moved in and I was only there a year, and I was the only one living there with a cat. I didn't even use the master bedroom. I used to have a cleaning business and I left this place clean. The carpets were clean. They still took $200 out of my deposit for them. I thought this was illegal in Maine. You can't charge for basic wear and tear or it's considered abuse of security deposit. I won't rent from them again. They don't appreciate good tenants. I'm very tired of certain Maine landlords thinking they can nickel and dime and treat tenants poorly simply because the market favors them. I won't forget the properties that do this and I hope other tenants don't either.
