I am not a tenant but was applying to be. The lady, not sure her name, younger employee, was handling my move in. I was contacted at the end of October 2022, was told I had to reapply or submit new documentation since I originally was added to the wait list in September 2021. Ok, thats fine. After back & forth of what was needed in my end and what wasnt, after getting the SAME paper notarized 3 times because the employee didnt know how I was supposed to complete the paper, finally everything was submitted and completed at the end of December 2022. Took 2 months of back and forth to complete the application. Since the time i originally applied, I was told the complex was income based and ranged from 30-50% of your income. I am a single mom. My gross income is around $1,500. I was still being told through the process the rent would be anywhere from 30-50%. Ok cool. I was also calling and going to the complex weekly to check the status of the approval from management. The employee told me the expected move in date is mid-January. I continuously asked if they know what the rent amount would be, every time Id get the phrase waiting on management. Well the first week of January went by, didnt hear from anyone. I went to the office (because no ever answers the phone on a normal basis) and was told the young lady who was handling my move in quit and check back next week. Second week of January came, I went into the office, I asked for an update, no update, said Id get a call. Today, January 18 2023, I called the complex and was told by the older lady the rent for me and my children would be $1,200. REMEMBER, I was told from the start the rent would be 30-50% of my income. I was upset but I understood everyone needs to make money. I asked why is the rent so high if this complex is income based. I was told this complex IS NOT income based, it is low income housing. Im not sure how they can be considered low income housing when rent is the normal amount for this area. Employee asked if I had any other income, I said no. Employee then said we didnt think you would qualify. Management was supposed to call me on 1/17 & 1/18. NO CALL! I want an explanation on why the application process what such a hassle. Also why, if they knew I didnt meet the income requirements, was I not told when I submitted all my documentation. Why are the employees advertising income based of it isnt based on your income. Like I said, I am STILL waiting for a call from management.
