Now that my brother is on Hospice the care in the Memory Care unit remains amazing. FaceTime (FT) for his family, who live hundreds of miles away, is very useful and the workers do their best to have him ready for FT which can be scheduled in very short time on the same day of request. Thank you, hands-on Caretakers.

I worked at Brookdale for a year in the memory care unit. I absolutely loved the residents.. Unfortunately the work place is not a good environment. Manager pick favorites within the employees. While HER least favorite employees are the overworked ones & least paid. CNAS are overworked, & unfortunately the residents are the ones that suffer. I have seen lots of mistreatment within our MC residents. CNAs are impatient, yell at residents, transfer them roughly, etc. People have been FIRED for speaking up for their rights & residents rights. SHAME on the associates who are writing good reviews about Brookdale when they know the truth of what happens inside of MC when no visitors are there. I strongly recommend not letting your loved ones live here. Its not safe, unorganized, & dysfunctional.

I worked activities in the memory care unit for a month. I ended up leaving because I couldnt handle seeing some of the CNAs being impatient and mean toward the residents in the memory care unit. I saw one of my favorite residents be mistreated and I started crying and just left. I didnt tell them that thats why I left, and they had no idea that thats why I was crying. It was a lot more than that, but thats what the urgency of me leaving my shift and never going back was. There really needs to be more than one activities worker on at a time. I didnt know until a few days after I started thad Id be working my shifts alone. There were three falls for the residents during my time there. I felt way too much pressure to keep the residents safe while needing to keep an eye on all of them and having multiple fall risk residents. My training was HORRIBLE. I was thrown into it without being taught hardly anything and I was voicing the entire time that I want to be shown how to do things and The Activities Director told me she already showed me something or that another staff member did, when no one ever did. She talks a lot about other people not remembering things when she has no clue what she has or hasnt said to other people. She books entertainers and then no one knows they were coming when they arrive. My sister booked a month out to go and sing and they werent aware of her coming when she arrived. I wasnt working there anymore when that happened, but my sister said the Activities Coordinator told her she got the wrong date. Which definitely wasnt the case. When I WAS working there, twice did we not know why an entertainer was there and they showed us emails confirming their time. One woman went with her son a few times who plays the piano for the residents. We had the time written down wrong and she showed me emails where she confirmed with the activities coordinator when she was coming, and then the night of, the mom was told she was wrong about the time when she reached out to the coordinator. She showed me the email and the mom was indeed correct. I strongly recommend not leaving your family members at this location. Its not a functional, safe, or organized unit.
