Downton Valley

WOW! What a special and wonderful experience staying at Downton Valley. The home was beautifully and thoughtfully designed and the entire experience felt curated and yet truly relaxing. We felt so lucky to witness the stunning views, share the amazing stories with our hosts and housemates, and enjoy the sweet town of Northampton. We felt safe and seen. Can't wait to go back.

We had a terrific anniversary weekend at Downton Valley! Our room was spacious and spotless, the views of the surrounding mountains and foliage were breathtaking, and Lisa and Bonnie were so gracious throughout our whole visit. Im sure well be back!

My wife and I had been searching for a place to go for our annual celebration of our 36th anniversary, that was affirming for 2 women, and having been advised by an acquaintance that Northampton, MA was well known to fit that bill, we began looking for accomodations. I came across information about Downton Valley, a B&B home for women only. It seemed perfect. So we booked it, and are so glad we did. We stayed at Downton Valley for a long weekend, from 9/21-9/24. A bit late for our August Anniversary, but those were the available dates that worked for us. As we drove up the drive we were immediately impressed by the property, and the very well maintained home. Lisa answered the door, and right away, it felt much more like we were there visiting friends, than checking into a B&B. Lisa gave us the grand tour of the house, and the lay of the land and to our room, the Isobel. More about that below! During our entire visit, the feeling of visiting friends was so strong. In fact, it was physically hard to suppress the desire to help clear the table after breakfast, but Lisa and Bonnie, absolutely would not allow it. Facilities: As guests we had free access to the majority of the house.. A few areas were marked private, but anything else was open. Inside they have a beautiful living room (with wood fireplace) and some very comfortable chairs around a coffee table. The view from the large windows is breathtaking, especially our first morning, when I managed to catch the sunrise. This opens to the Kitchen area (guests are not allowed to cook, but Lisa provides breakfast from there in the mornings.) and a breakfast nook. A Keurig is always available to make coffee. In the dining room, they usually have some fresh infused water, and some kind of fruit or snacks. In the breakfast area, there is a small refrigerator for guest use. This also contains cream, for coffee. On the lower floor, there is a media room with a very large television, and some nicely appointed seating. Next door to that is the game room, with a ping/pong / pool table, a chess board, a card table, with chairs, and a bookshelf with many games. Thru there is access to a large indoor, swim lane pool. There is also a gym with treadmills, stationary bikes as well. Outside, there is an absolutely gorgeous salt water pool, and a hot tub, and a screened in Gazebo. We enjoyed all of these immensely, during our stay. Overall, we truly enjoyed our stay. We took advantage of a number of the amenities, and we very much enjoyed meeting Lisa and Bonnie. We cannot wait to be able to plan another visit Rooms: We stayed in the Isobel Room. We had been a little worried based on the photos available from their website that it might be a bit small. When we walked in such fears were immediately eliminated. The room is spacious, with a lovely decor, has a very comfortable queen size bed. There is a full walk in closet with lots of shelves and room for hanging things. The bathroom has a seperate area for the commode, and the shower. We could not have been more comfortable in the room.

Such a remarkable experience, our time there was far too short!! Downton Valley is a beautiful retreat suitable for any time of year. We were absolutely blown away as we drove into the driveway. The unapparelled care continued throughout our stay. The saltwater pool was a real treat, soothing and relaxing. The breakfasts were delicious and prepared as if we were family. The sunrises were breathtaking coming up over the eastern sky, pictures do not do it justice. I don't believe we could have found a better place to relax and rejuvenate our spirits. Bonnie and Lisa (and Charlie of course), are amazing women who delighted in making our visit exceptional!! Thank You!! Terri and Carol Illinois Rooms: The rooms were private and exceptionally clean, the bed was cozy and comfortable. Nearby activities: Spent one morning at a nearby golf course.
