Planned Parenthood - Ann Arbor West Health Center

The practitioner I saw today was amazing, unfortunately I wish I could say the same for the medical assistant. Not only did she seem irritated when I asked about bringing my support person with me, she also did not listen to my wishes in regards to an exam, causing a ptsd event for me. Seeking healthcare for reproductive health is already a daunting task for most, and my experience today was not helpful in the slightest

Good morning. Michigan does not have full practice authority for nurses. That is the legal name for it. Nurses in Michigan do not have Independent practice rights. Meaning a doctor has to be present. Full practice authority is a provision that allows them to assess, diagnose, interpret diagnostic tests and prescribe medications independently. It says its to alleviate the doctors schedule. Meaning the clinic is illegal because I called and asked.

My experience with this planned parenthood has been mixed. They are very kind and nice here but they are almost always extremely late when ever I schedule appointments. Today I arrived 15 minutes early for my appointment but my name was not called for over an hour. So just be warned that you should budget at least an hour and a half when you come for a visit here. Otherwise everything is great.

My experience with this location of Planned Parenthood was absolutely fantastic. Literally everyone that was working there was super kind, understanding, patient, and accommodaing (and very willing to help in any way they could). I had an appointment to get an IUD put in, and of course while the procedure itself is uncomfortable, I felt safe and very well-taken care of by the doctor who did the procedure, and by the people who helped me adjust to the uneasiness/discomfort I had recovering from the procedure. These people went above and beyond, and made sure I was safe and okay before I headed back home.
