I had a new 5-Ton Bosch IDS 20 SEER Heat Pump/AC unit installed in August of 2023. One of the primary reasons I purchased the Bosch IDS 20 was due to it being praised as a very quiet running unit. I am certain something is wrong with the outside unit because it makes a high-pitched, annoying humming noise whenever it is in heat mode. It sounds like a diesel motor is running on high-idle, would be my best description. This Bosch unit replaced a 14 SEER Rheem unit that died but even that unit produced unnoticeable noise from inside the house. The Bosch is so loud when in Heat Mode and generates such a piercing drone that both my wife and I cannot sleep through it. Just last evening, my wife couldnt take it anymore and had to move to a spare bedroom on the other side of the house. I often lay awake in disbelief at the bizarre and unacceptable droning that lasts throughout the heating cycle (it's not just the defrost cycle). When the cycle is complete and the unit shuts off, it is truly like a Chinese water torture has ended and there is a literal sense of unbridled relief that lasts until the start of the next call for heat. I know Bosch is a top-tier, first class HVAC/engineering company and I have to believe the engineers would not design this unit to operate in such an incredibly noisy and disturbing manner, especially considering that Boschs marketing material boasts of how quite the unit runs. My HVAC company, that recommended the Bosch unit did some research before coming out and discovered that, yes, there are a bunch of complaints about the unacceptable noise when in heat mode. If I had been alerted to this fact, I never would have selected the Bosch IDS 20, EVEN if it were given to me free. Not being able to sleep through the noise in HEAT MODE is unacceptable and ridiculous. I am now out a small fortune and cannot use my Bosch to heat the house. I tried to speak with Bosch about this but they brushed me off, saying they will only speak with an HVAC contractor. That won't work because the HVAC company who installed it said he just learned how loud these units are in heat mode so I am stuck with it. I am praying that someone at Bosch can help me out and give me my money back and they can take back their 5-Ton IDS 20 SEER unit. I am retired and don't have the funds to buy another unit after just spending a lot of money on this Bosch just 4 months ago. I am frustrated and profoundly disappointed. If Bosch doesn't contact me or try to help me and be fair, I would recommend staying away from the Bosch units unless you don't need heat. I am also be filing a formal Unfair Trade Practice complaint in Washington, DC if Bosch ignores me or won't take their unit back based on their deceptive marketing materials and their own youtube marketing infomercials that hype how quiet these units are (but they don't warn you that HEAT MODE is extremely loud).
