A friend of mine convinced me to try rock wall climbing at the local cross-fit gym. I rented shoes and was told, not surprisingly, that I had to sign a liability waiver. Looking at the wall which appeared to be about 25 feet high, I asked about safety. There were no ropes or harnesses of any kind but there were people on the thing and there was a large foam pad at the base of it. The owner claimed he'd never had a problem so I decided to sign and go for it. He then literally smiled and said to me "break a leg" as I was walking away. After a few trial runs, I was able to make it to the top. Unfortunately, after missing the final grab that would have put me on the mezzanine, gravity took over. Turns out the foam padding may be just fine but the vinyl mat fabric that covers it doesn't give very much. I broke my ankle in two places in addition to shattering my heel bone into four pieces. It is by far the most pain and protracted recovery I have every experienced. Needless to say I was very unhappy with the events of that day and thought surely there must be a case to be made for negligence or something. I contacted Mr. Stahl who patiently listened to my story and agreed to take me on as a client. His subsequent research revealed that the type of waiver I signed is iron-clad in Michigan and there was much legal precedent to indicate that I essentially had no legal leg to stand on, either. Even so, Mr. Stahl skillfully appealed to the owner's insurance company agent and was successful in negotiating a settlement sufficient to cover my very substantial medical expenses. I do not recommend free climbing on rock walls but I am grateful to have had Gerald R. Stahl as my advocate and would recommend him highly to anyone.

I am one of the Marines that was exposed to the toxic water while stationed at Camp LeJeune. After recently deciding to file a claim under the Camp LeJeune Justice Act, I met with Attorney Gerald Stahl to file my claim. What a genuinely good and nice man! I was greeted with such kindness and compassion for my situation and this continued throughout our meeting. I appreciate the fact that Jerry took the time to not only listen to my story, but he wanted to know who I was as a person. He honestly cared about what I have been through medically due to being exposed to the toxic water at Camp LeJeune. He asked the right questions, and was extremely thorough in gathering the initial information needed to pursue my case, all the while making me feel comfortable enough to share some very private and personal medical details and information.
