I placed an order for an item that had a $50 instant savings. After I placed the order, I saw that I was being charged 6.94% sales tax, when the sales tax for my state and county is only 5.5%. I was being charged sales tax on the full original price of the product, instead of the sale price, and I was also being charged sales tax on the shipping amount, neither of which is taxable. I contacted Sam's Club and went round and round with support and had to talk to 2 different people. They had every excuse as to why they overcharged me, but I am an accountant, so I know what is taxable and what is not, but just to be sure, I checked the sales tax document on the State of Wisconsin website and found that sales tax is charged on the final sale price of an item and not the original price as Sam's Club tried to tell me. Shipping fees are never taxable. After about an hour of my time, they told me there was nothing that they could do until I actually received the product and I that I could call back then and they would credit me. That wasn't going to work for me because I was not going to spend another hour on the phone trying to get credit and then be told that they would not do it. She could have issued me the same credit today that someone else can a few days from now; she was just trying to pass the buck onto someone else and make sure that the sale went through. Then she came back and said that she would give me a one-time electronic credit, but I only order from Sam's about once every 5 years, so that just wasn't going to work, but I told her if they could put it on my Walmart account then that would be OK, but they couldn't do that either. Then I told them to cancel my order that I had just placed within the hour and she couldn't do that either and told me that when I get the product to just refuse it. Well, that was not going to work for me because then I would still be charged almost $10 in shipping fees plus the tax they charged me on it, in addition to return shipping costs, and probably a restocking fee too. Then the girl I was talking to just disappeared and never came back again. So then I disconnected the chat and went to my order and clicked the cancel button and it canceled my order, so she could have just canceled my order when I requested her to do so, but again, she was trying to trap me into completing the order and making it so I couldn't get a credit for the taxes that Sam's Club overcharged me. I don't like unethical companies that overcharge their customers so that they can rack up an extra few dollars of profit from all their customers and I don't like customer service people who tell me that they cannot cancel my order just to make sure the sale goes through so that the company makes money on me either way. There was no reason in the world why she could not issue a credit directly to the credit card that I had just used to make the purchase. If Sam's Club overcharges every customer this way, imagine how many millions of dollars they profit by doing this. At this point, I am going to my Attorney General and filing my complaint, because what they are doing is illegal and very unethical. If I could give Sam's Club zero stars I would, because that is what they deserve.
