My husband and I went to start a new checking/savings with them to be told in order to have a bank account with them you have to be apart of their church or know someone associated with the church in order to obtain an account. That is one of the most absurd things I've ever heard of. Then she asked if we would consider going to their church when I had already stated we attend a different church.

We had a branch in Waxahachie, TX for over 15 years. With short notice the branch was closed with no plan to take care of the members down here in Texas. The local shared branch is planning to stop shared branch transactions soon because they have been overwhelmed with AGCU members using them. We will now have to drive 20 minutes to get to a shared branch if we need to deal with a cash deposit or withdrawal. If a check deposit is over the limit to do in the app we now have to drive 20 minutes to deposit those checks. It is virtually impossible to continue banking with AGCU.

Theresa, thank you for sharing your experience, and we’re sorry that you weren’t able to take advantage of our financial services. We understand that most people are accustomed to doing business as a bank customer, but Credit Unions differ from banks in a few ways. Where banks are owned by a few stakeholders, Credit Unions are not-for-profit organizations and each member is an owner and gets a vote in the direction of the organization. Every Credit Union has a “Field of Membership” and the requirements vary widely depending on the type of organization where you’re applying. Usually, you'll have to work for a select employer or live in a specific city or county, or you, or a family member serve in the military, but there is always a common bond that members share. For the Assemblies of God Credit Union, our membership eligibility includes everyone (and their families) who attends or calls an Assemblies of God Church their home church in the United States; who is employed by the Assemblies of God; who graduated from, is employed by or a student of any of the AG Colleges; or volunteers with AG organizations. You can see our full field of membership here https://agcu.org/about/field-of-membership. Although they don’t have to be a member, if any of your family members qualify for membership, then you also qualify. I hope this answers your questions about membership requirements for the Assemblies of God Credit Union. If you have any more questions, please reach out to our Member Care team, and it will be our pleasure to help you.
