Its a good place, the fact that this hospital is has our Blessed Mother Name is amazing. But also being able to go and pray in the chapel in front of the blessed sacrament whenever I come to visit Nebraska City, is such a gift. I havent been a patient here but I have seen members of the staff with patients around they are so compassionate and caring for them.

2 concerns. 1) A patient is asked how many times a day she checks her blood sugars. If it is a low number, like I only say 2x a day, insur won't cover a dexcom CGM, which I finally got and is extremely helpful. Before, just using a lancet, if I'd get a reading before lunch of 200 I didn't know what to do. I still needed to eat. 2) Because my a1c had been in the 8, 9 and 10 range for 2 years, I got referred to a specialist. It cost me $1,000 out of pocket for 2 visits to this specialist. Insur told me specialists do get paid more because its now considered diagnostic care not preventative. I quit the specialist. I made a visit back with my Neb City PA, stayed on the dexcom and got novolog from my PA which is meal time insulin. I had guessed I needed meal time insulin because my numbers climbed higher and higher all day. I would guess I should have started novolog before I was referred to a specialist in June and 4 months would not have been in limbo between doctors. The novolog dropped my A1c (july-oct) to 7.7. I thought by sharing my concerns it might open discussions about how patients are "managed".
