I have lots to say about this place. I first took my bunny here in 2018 when they where the only place open during my emergency. They where fine for the basic GI stasis my rabbit was experiencing. As I continued to go there I noticed the carelessness, low level of education, and questionable behaviour of the staff. I have owned rabbits for 5 years and have been to Amherst half a dozen times within my first couple of years of owning rabbits. Each time I went I was given more misinformed than the last. Makes me believe the staff have very minimal training in exotics. Honestly seems like a google education level to me. They knew minimal things about their diet. Basics like veg, pellets, hay and so on. Just the basics. I have also talked with others that have taken their rabbits here and have about the same things to say about them as I do. I will not be going here again nor do I recommend it to anyone looking for an exotic vet. I cannot say anything about their dog and cat care as I havent brought either in.

I've been going to this place for years until one day my kitty jasmine was having urinary problems so I do what any mother does I take her in and the first thing they should of done was blood work and x rays, nope they didn't, so they sent me to an emergency animal hospital which in the end I had to go back to this place because the other place didn't fix the problem so now they were doing guess work and assuming and tried putting my baby on different medications I put to a stop to it since clearly they didn't know what they were doing they kept yanking my chain and taking money from me not even trying to help my baby, so I found a different vet that actually cares and did everything right on the first visit, VCA did the blood work the x rays and urine sample, my baby had urine stones and she's been suffering through them even when Amherst kept yanking our chains just to get money, VCA told me medication could work but in the end she will need surgery I took the surgery option because I was done seeing my baby suffer all because of Amherst. Anyone else want there fur babies to be in good hands go to VCA in boscawen nh they actually care and will do everything right the first time. And Amherst shame on you, your not a caring vet your a money grubber.

Hi Ava, I read your review and searched our records for information on your rabbits. I was unable to find any clients that matched your first or last name that had brought a rabbit to us in the past 10 years. We do treat some exotics at our practice - primarily for routine procedures and minor illnesses. Any exotic patients requiring more intensive care or diagnostics are referred to a specialty practice.Happy Holidays and best wishes to you and your pets in the New Year!

Shannon, I wanted to clarify the medical assessments for Jasmine. At the end of August, Jasmine was treated at Urgent Care for lower urinary tract symptoms. The referral notes indicate that you declined to have a urine sample evaluated and that antibiotics were prescribed for presumptive UTI. 2 weeks later, we examined Jasmine. It was reported that she had improved on antibiotics but her symptoms returned. The urine sample showed evidence of inflammation including high protein, white blood cells and red blood cells. An anti-inflammatory and urinary diet was prescribed for cystitis and to reduce the crystal formation noted in her urine. There was discussion of performing radiographs to assess for bladder stones if Jasmine's symptoms continued. A week later, you reported that she was having bloody urine and radiographs were recommended. We were concerned about the presence of bladder stones, but you declined imaging. Following that communication, we forwarded Jasmine's records to another hospital at your request.I am happy that you pursued further testing and hope that Jasmine will have a full recovery.
