I once needed help with food. They helped me with essentials and didn't make me feel embarrassed. I was emotionally touched and will always hold them in high esteem. Thank God they're are people out their with good hearts and needless to say their giving and caring attitude is definitely contagious. God bless them.

They unfortunately were unable to help me. I was told that I would have to go first to the Camden County Social Services. The County Social Services said they couldn't help me because I was not a resident of the county. How can you be a resident of anywhere when you are homeless? So, I spent a week trying to find places to be safe in a very dangerous city. I mostly stayed in the Cooper Hospital surgical waiting room pretending that I was waiting for a family member in surgery. Finally, after not getting help from Lourdes Hospital or Cooper Hospital, I went to Virtua where I was once a physician assistant student in their ER. I told them that I was suicidal. They remembered me and helped me. They sent me to their psych unit in Mount Holly. The psychiatrist there gave me a bus and train ticket after a few days to the Trenton Rescue Mission who saved my life and eventually secured housing for me and helped me to get SSDI. I owe my life to them. Camden did nothing for me. I even went one night to the police station to get some help to get into a shelter. Mind you it was winter and was very cold outside. The officer said he would help me. He never did. I slept with some other homeless people on the police station floor because it was a code blue site. At 4 AM, an officer came out and yelled, everyone out. There is no code blue. I saw people going to the train station to sleep and it was filthy. I went to Cooper and sat in a waiting room until dawn. It was heartless sending a 55 year old woman on to the streets in the middle of the night. There is no compassion whatsoever in Camden. On a different night, I slept on the floor of the butterfly offices for a code blue. I was sleeping between two men. That wasn't safe. At 6 AM, they kicked us out. In Camden, they treat their homeless like worms. Like sub humans not worth the time of day. So, I don't have anything great to say about butterfly. They ought to at least respect the safety of women in the most dangerous city in the nation. Shame on you and may God forgive you!
