Super high quality and so grateful it's in the LIC neighborhood! DEFINITELY recommended. The experience was intimate, with seating for about 10-12 in front of the chefs, but with tables in the back as well for a la carte dining. We were seated next to friendly folks so instantly had a fun connection during dinner and the staff was extremely attentive and professional throughout. The seafood was unbelievably fresh and delicious. My personal favorites were the O'Toro and the King Salmon but the Nigiri was up there as were all the tuna options. In short - all SO GOOD. Topped off with dessert, our 15 and 18 course omakase experience at Kaiyo was well worth it and had us content and happy.

Really wonderful new omakase place in LIC. The fish was top quality - some of the freshest, melt-in-your mouth otoro Ive ever had. The wait staff was exception - some of the best service Ive had in all of NYC. Recommend to anyone who loves omakase or sushi. They even hand wrote a kind birthday card for my partners birthday - those small touches really make you feel welcome. Will definitely return.

I tried a number of sushi spots in Manhattan and Long Island City and this was definitely one of the best spots for me. No frills, all about the sushi, prepared piece by piece right in front of you when you're sitting at the bar (that's the best way to experience this). As for 4 stars for atmosphere, that is very personal to me but I can't stand cool jazz and it was blaring during the whole evening.

If you are looking for something comparable to the previous restaurant at the same location, the answer is no. Ingredients are fresh. Services are good. Maybe if you never been to authentic good sushi, you can have 5 stars experience Giving 2 stars because of the taste and the super non-traditional way of making sushi. I was crying innerly for all good ingredients being ruined. The balance of taste is destroyed by the creative method of mixing stuff together for no reason. Also the foundation - rice doesnt taste good. Sometimes I would get some dried rice. For some fishes, I believe the processing went wrong. I got some super chewy part from two sushi, that stayed in my mouth and destroyed the tenderness feeling. Also, putting Jalapeo on top of sushi. OMG, too creative. It killed all flavors. The order of giving sushi was weird. We were having stronger taste fish before the lighter ones Finally, mochi ice cream dessert was average grocery quality. Would never go again. As a premium pricing, I believe chefs were not qualified to serve good sushi.
